That my friend is a result (among many other reasons, like starting young , having a dad who was way way into blues, and having played live funk fusion soul blues jazz for a long long time ) of having seriously studied jazz guitar. Blurring the imaginary lines between jazz and blues, like the "RnB" musicians of the 40's 50's. You can't comp like that without the funk feel, and the variety of voicings.

THE OTHER GUY -happens to be Matt Schofield, a phenomenal talent, probably just came in to listen and Chris gave him a guitar to play, as Matt always plays strats, and totally nails it. Not to take anything away from Chris, he is also great, they certainly had a fantastic time playing together, as well as call and response. Years ago when I worked in retail grocery my buddy who ran the delicatessen was Chris’s rhythm guitarist, so I was lucky enough to start watching him around 1987 or so... give or take - it’s been a while. It’s amazing to see these two seriously talented guys dip into their seemingly unending vault of wonderful licks,fills, and ideas, when Chris is on he’s tough but Matt is a monster as well - more than held his own!

Met CC after a gig in Sweden in 2020; was so totally blowned away and felt I had to thank him in person.
