I would like to take this opportunity to thank Seth for calling the character "the Doctor" and NOT "Doctor Who".
@Lumibear.7 жыл бұрын
Tanya Kopel - I would like to take this opportunity to say it depends on the context, if you’re talking about the show in-universe then he’s most definitely not Doctor Who (unless you’re Missy) he’s THE Doctor, and quite right too, however outside of all that in the real world the role is commonly referred to as Doctor Who, as said constantly by the ever lovely Tom Baker, or as in ‘Who Is The New Doctor Who’, as it’s less confusing that way.
@milkteamachine7 жыл бұрын
The character is called "The Doctor", as long as it's clear which show you're talking about (and it usually is, unless it's in a title like your example), there is no need to say "Doctor Who".

As Tom Baker said, “Nobody has ever failed at the part.” It really is unbreakable as a character. You always think the one you’re currently watching is the best, but that’s because they all are the same person, so once you get used to the new personality, all the same affection you had for the previous actor(s) also transfers over to the new one.

tss6295 If you want recommendations for other Doctor’s and their best episodes Try the 1st Doctor for the development from a grumpy old man to a grandfather figure. Episode recommendation- An Unearthly child, The Dalek invasion of Earth, The Aztecs, The Time meddler and The Tenth planet. 2nd Doctor for the bumbling hobo in control that was the basis of the 11th Doctor. Episode recommendations-The enemy of the world, The web of fear, The mind robber, Tomb of the Cybermen, The invasion, Seeds of death and The war games. 3rd Doctor focuses on being suave and action oriented like 007. Episode recommendations-Spearheaded from space, Inferno, Doctor Who and The Silurians, Terror of the Autons, Curse and/or monster of Peladon, The three Doctors, The green death and The Time warrior. The 4th Doctor is probably more well known to you but I recommend-The Ark In space, The Sontaran experiment, Genesis of the Daleks, Terror of the Zygons, Pyramids of Mars, The brain of Morbius, The seeds of doom, The deadly assassin, The Talons of Weng-Chiang, Horror of Fang rock, The Pirate planet, City of death, Shada and Logopolis. You’ve also seen the 5th Doctor but luckily or unluckily he has few great episodes- Castrovalva, Kinda, The visitation, Earthshock, The five Doctors, Resurrection of the Daleks and The caves of Androzani. The 6th is not as bad as many people say but he has few good episodes. He gets infinitely better in his audio dramas. Episode recommendations-The attack of the Cybermen, The Vengeance on Varos, The Two Doctors and Revelation of the Daleks. The trial of a time lord has mixed results but I personally enjoy it. The 7th Doctor (my favourite) starts like a discount 2nd Doctor but becomes a dark more mysterious figure in his last two seasons. Episode recommendations-The Remembrance of the Daleks, The happiness patrol, The greatest show in the galaxy, Battlefield, Ghost light (even if it’s hard to follow), Curse of Fenric and Survival. The 8th Doctor only has two on screen appearances but his Big finish audios are very much worth listening to. If you can get through the cheap effects then you’ll be able to watch some of the best written and more subtle episodes of Doctor Who. Sorry for the ramble but classic Who doesn’t get enough love.
@tss62957 жыл бұрын
Finley Watts ah cool! Yeah I’ll definitely check them out. When I was trying to watch Classic Who, the graphics were what got me about me. That’s why I prefer New Who. Also, in my opinion, there’s more action in New Who, and I like watching that.

11 was unique in that he could universally be a role model for everyone watching the show; he was always himself and dressed strange and all scatterbrained and in moments that got people confused and annoyed but on the whole that got people to love him like nobody else could. Even though he lacked any social skills whatsoever he didn't care because he was wise and kind and that was what he knew. I'm don't actually believe I've ever seen them choose a bad actor to play The Doctor... Of course everyone has their favorite, and I do think David Tennant hits all the marks for my favorite Doctor, but the other actors to have stepped into the role have never failed to impress me. Matt Smith is no exception. True he did take some getting used to, but that is the nature of the show. When a new actor steps into the role has been, will always be, and is intended to be, a bit jarring. By the nature of the character, The Doctor, each death is a bit sad. True the memories live on and it's technically the same person, but each iteration has its own hopes, dreams, ambitions, its own way of dealing with things. At the heart it may be the same character, the same person, but the nuances are so diverse and varied. I truly think David Tennant's iteration of The Doctor said it best, just as he was about to change, with the simple yet emotionally charged line "I don't want to go". So no, Matt Smith may not be my favorite actor to have played The Doctor. That however is by no means a slight. As an actor gifted with a chance to play such an iconic and influential role Matt Smith stands shoulder to shoulder with giants. Does it really matter if one giant or another shines a bit brighter to some people than others?
@pikaplayzhd5957 жыл бұрын
oh true, all of the doctors have been great actors, they haven't chose a bad actor ever to play the doctor, it's always been someone with talent from Hartnell to Whittaker, all of them are amazing actors that deserve to play the role and all of them bring something new and unique to the table!

To me, Smith's era of Doctor Who with Amy and Rory will always be the peak of the show. In my mind, nothing will ever beat it. From series 5 up to Angels Take Manhattan in series 7. By far the best era of Doctor Who ever made. Everything about it is perfect. The cracks in time narrative, the story of River Song, the Silence. Not to mention the beautiful cleanup the producers did in terms of quality. They made the show look expensive which is something previous eras had failed to do. Series 5 was when Doctor Who became something bigger than it ever had been; ruined by the loss of Amy and Rory. (Clara's 'Impossible Girl' storyline was a bit naff in my honest opinion). I'm so grateful that I got to be alive in a time where my favourite television show was at its very best. Thank you Moffat. Thank you Smith. Thanks to everyone who worked on Doctor Who throughout this era. You made my childhood so exciting and inspired me to become a filmmaker in the process. Once again, I thank you.

One thing you should know about British people is we have about 100 synonyms for 'idiot'. So if someone calls you a funny word like pillock, plonker, numpty, tosser, dolt, muppet, prat, wally, twit, berk... etc. most likely they are insulting your intelligence :)
@zorkmid10837 жыл бұрын
Emily Stark Yeah, dolt and twit are familiar across the pond too, but not so much berk, wally, prat, etc. As for muppet, people will probably wonder why they're being called a puppet from Sesame Street. ☺
@xpledgeturnprestigex7 жыл бұрын
yeah you're right i guess it is, I probably included it because it's also a silly british word that's an insult, but it does have a more specific meaning
@chainsawchav7 жыл бұрын
Berk is actually a bit ruder than just calling someone an idiot. It's an abbreviated form of "Berkshire Hunt", which is cockney rhyming slang for... well i'm sure you can guess what it rhymes with.

When Tennant first appeared, I was devastated and grew to love him. When Smith first appeared, I was devastated and grew to love him. When Capaldi first appeared, I was devastated and grew to love him. When Whitaker first appeared, I was elated and grew to hate her.
@wardjunior14504 ай бұрын
Why were you elated?
@beelzzebub4 ай бұрын
@@wardjunior1450 because it felt like they were doing something risky and different, which is what the show needed (plus she's a great actor). Unfortunately, the best acting in the world couldn't make up for the garbage scripts Chibnal wrote 😞
@wardjunior14504 ай бұрын
@@beelzzebub I’ve never seen her perform well. Broadchurch was the most one note thing I’ve ever seen. She was catastrophic from the first second in dw.
@beelzzebub4 ай бұрын
@@wardjunior1450 I did enjoy her first episode as the Doctor, but apart from that I agree she didn't do exceptionally. I find it hard to judge her when she's doing as much as the script allows though

Matt Smith is my Doctor. He's the first one I ever saw, his costume was engrained in my mind as what the Doctor would wear, his performance was phenomenal, and the Eleventh Doctor is the first character I've ever cosplayed, and it's fun trying to be like him.

Why hate The Doctor, its just the face that changes, it is still The Doctor.
@highvoltage77977 жыл бұрын
strzaskany alf Depends less on whose playing the character and more on the writing. Imo Tennant’s writing was really inconsistent. While his regeneration in isolation is great, compared to other Doctor’s he’s out of character.

i bingewacthed nine and ten plus all the specials. i saw him at the last scene of the last special,and then there was nothing more left to binge. (i took 3 weeks for all of it). i checked when the next session would air,and it said "next week" so from this moment on i had to follow him live. nine and ten were my doctors for 3 weeks, 11 was my doctor for 3 years. that didn't change afterwards. so it's him.
