My wife and I both took lessons from Matt around 25 years ago, when he lived in the Albany NY area. He is an incredible teacher for guitar, vocals and arrangement. I had a theory background, my wife didn't. He has a knack for meeting the student at whatever level they come from. I've taken lessons from others, but Matt was a real master.

Matt can you explain why you are using the A pentatonic( major and minor ) throughout the progression . i see how it works but why are you using Am pentatonic over a D chord , i would have thought of using D pentatatonic over D , can you explain that theory , would really help thanks
@6stringranch1486 жыл бұрын
The A and C in the A minor pentatonic are the 5 and flat 7 of the D7 chord. The E in the scale is the 9 of D7, which also works over the chord. A Major pentatonic has a C#, which clashes with the D7.

Thank You !
@jamesonfloyd94157 жыл бұрын
So can anyone explain theoretically why the A minor pentatonic works over the 4 and 5 chords? Thanks!
@6stringranch1487 жыл бұрын
Jameson Floyd It has to do with the notes in the 4 chord. In A, the 4 chord is D7 ( D F# A C), the A minor pentatonic ha the A, C, and D in it, as well as E (9) and G, which is why the scale works so well. Stay away from that G note over the D7 chord. 4 out of 5 aint bad.....
