TEXT
The Great Commission- La Grande Commission
16 Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. 17 When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. 18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
Who wrote the book of Matthew?
Author: Written by the same-named apostle, this book is referred to as the Gospel of Matthew. The book's style is right in line with what one could anticipate from a former tax collector. Accounting piques Matthew's interest (18:23-24; 25:14-15). Matthew 13:3-9, Mark 4-9, and Luke 8-4-8 contain the Parable of the Sower, sometimes referred to as the Parable of the Four Soils. Following His presentation of this story to the crowd, Jesus gives His disciples an interpretation of it in Matthew 13:18-23, Mark 4:13-20, and Luke 8:11-15.
The fact that Matthew was a skilled tax collector adds to the excitement of his writing for Christians. Since shorthand writing was required of tax collectors, Matthew could virtually record someone's remarks as they were said, word for word. Because of this capacity, Matthew's writings should be an authentic transcription of part of Christ's teachings, in addition to being inspired by the Holy Spirit. For instance, the Sermon on the Mount, which is included in chapters 5-7, is most likely a flawless transcription of that important lesson.
Writing Date: As an apostle, Matthew most likely composed the Gospel of Matthew between the years of 55 and 65 A.D. during the early years of the church. Matthew's emphasis on the Jewish perspective in this Gospel makes sense, since the majority of Christians at this time were converted Jews.
SYNOPTIC: The gospels of Matthew, Mark, and Luke are known as the synoptic gospels because they include a large number of identical stories, frequently presented in a comparable order.
Why is John not considered a synoptic gospel?
But in John, Jesus not only welcomes discussion of his divinity but also makes it known in public. Jesus uses parables (code) to communicate in the synoptic Gospels; in John, however, the parables are completely missing, and Jesus is straightforward about his identity and mission.
Matthew 28:19-20: What does it mean?
A gracious God has given His faithful Church the Great Commission, which calls them to go forth into the world, baptize the lost, and teach them to observe His commands. According to Matthew 28:18-20, the church must be obedient and have disciples who are prepared to sacrifice themselves for the glory of God.
The disciples had been instructed by him to "make disciples." Since then, this has been the Christian church's main external mission. It is required of followers of Jesus to follow Jesus. This entails educating and instructing them on religious subjects in a cooperative manner. Although it is a crucial component of that process, written Scripture is not the process in its entirety (2 Timothy 3:16). Instead of telling people to "make copies of the Bible," Jesus told them to make disciples.
New followers of Jesus pledge to serve Him while being instructed by individuals in His authority, just as the disciples did when they vowed to serve Him and were prepared for this mission (2 Timothy 4:1-2). This is a lifelong dedication to the kingdom of heaven.
Jesus has stated two expectations for people who have put their faith in Him and made the decision to become His disciples. The first is water baptism. Jesus' baptism marked the start of His ministry. The purpose of baptism is to publicly proclaim that a person who believes in Jesus is now His. In the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, Jesus has commanded the disciples to baptize Christians.
Jesus then goes on to say that people who identify as His disciples must also obey Him (John 14:15). New converts to Jesus are to learn from the disciples to follow all of Jesus' instructions. Every Christian should make following all of Jesus' teachings their norm.
