I've only recently discovered "Matt and Julia". But I've become addicted. I've been fortunate to have traveled a lot in my life but, now over 80, my most adventurous trips are behind me. I do feel like I'm traveling vicariously with you to some of the most unusual places where I've certainly never been. But I have been to China several times... first in 1988. The development since then has been amazing and you've captured modern China. And also the warmth and enthusiasm of the people. Best wishes and good health in 2025. I loved this China series. China has been so foreign & strange to me. Your series has shown so many beautiful places & kind people. The mountain trip, temples, town that looked like London, and exploring the cities was so interesting to me. My absolute favorite episode was visiting the home of the grandmother in the rustic side of Beijing!

I love that you call China 'an often misunderstood country'. I think it is a very appropriate way to call China, for westeners, being from Russia or western europe. Thank you for this. Misunderstood is a polite way of saying it. But western governments intentionally portray it authoritarian, dirty, backward , dangerous, etc to smear China. While the opposite is true. It is far more progressive than western countries. Cops don't carry guns. Crime is very low. Women are safe walking alone at night.

I feel the term "misunderstood" is only applicable for normal people cause they were misled into believing their governments and their media propaganda. In the political level, China is not "misunderstood". Rather, it is a conscious, calculated and malignant action on the part of many countries to spew anti-China propaganda for geopolitical and economic motives. For those who are keen, you may google USD1.6bn anti-China propaganda by USA.

Julia and Matt: you are both willing and talented to learn a new language, you both done good! [No talent and no desire to learn = failure]. You also stayed with a family, had a non-tourist experience, were challenged and succeeded in communication!!!! = the key to learning a language! You can laugh at your language "failures", you've shown what it is to experience a country: in this case China. It could be the same in any other country, too.
