Matt...I agree...the Rose Bowl had that national championship feel to it. Alabama was a tremendous opponent, the only team to go beyond regulation with Michigan, and, by far, was Michigan's toughest opponent this year. It was one of the greatest games I have ever seen in my 40 years of being a Wolverines fan. Washington made it interesting, but the truth of the matter is, Michigan should have racked up more points than they did last night. Good luck to you during the off-season. @joshr6540 - To each his own...I guess. Everyone is entitled to their opinion...even when their opinion is vastly out of sync with the general consensus. And the general consensus is this: The 2024 rendition of the "Grandaddy Of Them All" was easily ONE of the greatest Rose Bowls ever played. There are so many people who agree with that conclusion (including Alabama fans like Matt)...so many news outlets...so many college football channels on KZbin (SEC and otherwise), that it would take all night to list them. I have to believe that you may possibly be suffering "Sour Grapes" syndrome (especially if you are a Crimson Tide fan, or an SEC fan, or a Huskies fan). Most of M's mistakes were special teams' mistakes, but there were others as well. That's what happens in college football. And when you say there were so many mistakes, you seem to equate "mistakes" with a bad game to watch. That is a logical fallacy, in that the "one" does not automatically equal the "other." I would also argue that often times, the mistakes make for a more interesting...a more entertaining game. I, and those who watched it with me were on the edge of our seats. Take the 2006 Rose Bowl: USC vs Texas - Texas pulled off the upset in a game that is often proclaimed as the best Rose Bowl ever. That is the overwhelming consensus, by far. Fans believe that, even though there were 3 turnovers between the teams, and both defenses decided to not show up for the game, as there was over a thousand total yards combined. All of that, and college football fans still list that 2006 Rose Bowl as the best...an instant classic. So you are entitled to your opinion, and I am entitled to mine (of course, mine is the majority opinion by leaps and bounds). Now, you seem like a pretty good person, but I have to block you now...I just don't have time for a back-in-forth debate that will be fruitless for both of us.

I’ll explain Harbaugh’s drafting ranked 18th. He’s doing what others aren’t and they will learn from him and catch on. Who would you rather have on your team? 5 star players right out of high school or high 3 star and 4 stars in the portal that have more experience and are key players needed as 5 and 6 year seniors. Harbaugh is treating this (portal players) like NFL business from his office. He’s a genius and this is very smart on his part. I think Harbaugh stays, he’s 60, a family man, had number of kids still in young grade schools, they’re settled and his parents both live in Anna Arbor and are in their 80s. Michael Penix got exposed for the first time in this game all season. The plays Washington Offensive Coordinator was calling were great plays. Ryan Grubb had guys open all game long but Michigan’s D line was overwhelming Washington’s O line. This game showed me if Penix gets pressured he misses so many reads and forces so many throws. Pressure absolutely destroys his decision making and accuracy. So a good D line will destroy Penix that’s all I needed to know watching that game. He can’t perform well under pressure. He makes so many rushed irrational decisions and throws inaccurate passes or misses them completely.

I felt really good about Michigan's chances before both of the CFP games. Both Alabama and Washington had stellar quarterbacks, and a lot of commentators were forecasting that they would (or at least could) pick Michigan apart. But they were forgetting that, since the Covid year, Michigan was specifically built to deal with a stellar quarterback, i.e. CJ Stroud at OSU. Given the way they handled him, and the OSU team as a whole, I figured they would be fine against both Bama and Wash. Nice to be right!

Michigan looked like an NFL team when paired up against Washington. The score never made sense for most of the game based on the play, but Michigan wore the hell out of Washington. 100% on board that the real championship was Michigan against Alabama, that was the proper match up.

You can say that about EVERY PLAYOFF GAME EVER. “oH thE rEaL cHiP waS lAsT WeeK.” You’re fun to watch Matt but that is the worst narrative ever it’s such faulty logic.

There is no way to know what would happen in each game. You can do your hardest to predict, but there is no way to test the matchup until the game happens.

It’s like FSU and Jordan Travis, hard to replace a QB that good but I agree. The game was out of reach for them at that point and he was still out there clutching his rib

I keep telling people - those fancy passing offenses seldom work in PHYSICAL conferences like the Big Ten and SEC. Even the so-called lower tiered teams in those conferences are PHYSICAL. The new additions to those conferences are in for some serious growing pains. The line of scrimmage rules in the Big Two conferences. Defense is not optional here.

Big ten will do well with new playoff format. Imagine an sec team visiting in Iowa, Penn state, ohio state, Michigan or Wisconsin in December.

Penix is a great QB and was almost always able to get the ball away without taking a sack (only 1). But the pressure was obvious the whole game.... his options were extremely limited and rushed.

Michigan fan here, after seeing so much excuse making and sour grapes from Washington fans, glad how class most Alabama fans were after that game. Michigan as a fan base seems to fit in much better with the SEC, they are surrounded by some pretty toxic fan bases in Ohio State, Michigan State, and Penn State, where Washington seems like they will fit right in. You've earned a subscriber from a non Alabama fan, keep up the good work.

The real championship game was OSU vs Michigan. Michigan could have easily scored 2 more scores in that Bama game if they didn't shoot themselves in the foot. The score didn't really suggest how much Michigan was dominant over Bama. The toughest game they played all years was against OSU.
@ericp74138 ай бұрын
So I feel this game is just an example of what happens when Michigan doesn't make those special teams mistakes. The Alabama game honestly shouldn't have even been a game. Michigan gave Alabama a short field every single time they got the ball and the only time they scored aside from maybe 1 score it was off of a start at around the 50. Take away the turnover at first, Michigan scores, take away the bad punts, and make Alabama start at the 20, Alabama is more than likely scoreless in the first half, and maybe the only touchdown all game is the first score after half. Good game but it closed only because of Michigan's special teams. Still. what a crazy season!
@SGBassplayer8 ай бұрын
‘Bama is an honored enemy; the only team to take the lead on Michigan in the 2nd half ALL YEAR. Even though it felt like Michigan was chasing points throughout the entire second half against the Buckeyes, the Wolverines never trailed in that game (and probably should have won by more but played conservatively late).
