Soft top is probably easier to break into with a box cutter or pocket knife. It definitely allows more road noise in.

hard tops are MUCH easier to repair. they require no fussing with the canvas top, and tension rods/straps, which ends up taking all of your time on canvas tops. Source: BMW service shop owner
