Mattel Big Jim Rescue Rig (With Box) 1970's

I really liked the rescue rig. But, like you, I was partial to my camper. Looking back on it now, I guess it was just because the camper came first, so it got all my love. Clearly the fire rig had more adventures to be had, but the camper was just the happy middle that serviced the buggy and boat and everything I would do outdoors. I truly wish Mattel would bring Big Jim back, but that is time only people like you and me who grew up in that era can relate. Playtime was mostly outdoors and Big Jim brought it. Kids today can not relate because they change outfits and adventures on a computer. We did it manually and damn if we didn't have the best time. Everything around us was REAL.

My best friend growing up had this. We used to ask for complimentary sets on christmas so we could get together and play with complete collections of toys. I also had the entire Pack with their black wagon (The Beast), and the Karate studio. What a great time to be a kid that was!!

I never had any of the PACK series. I wanted the Karate studio but never received it. That set looked like it would have been a blast back then

I had this, the camper, the Beast off road camper truck, and the laser vette. My cousin and I just about wore them out. Played big jims with super hero dolls, original 12 inch GI Joes. The best of times.

I saw an ad for the camper from 1972. The cost was 10.00. My Big Jim Jungle truck still has the price tag. Its hard to read but It looks like it was 15.00. I dont know the original price for the Rescue Rig. Have you checked out the site Wish Book on line? Vintage Christmas catalogs are up loaded on that site. You may get lucky and see the Rescue Rig in one of the catalogs
