Mattel Synsonics Bunduru Part 1

I bought a mint condition Synsonics Drums for £30. This left me with me with the 'spare repair' one I bought a year ago which I thought would make a great project to see if it could be incorporated into a an acoustic drum kit!
I use a Time electronics Model 8000 Decade Resistor box to help set the correct value resistor to select the sensitivity of triggering Synsonics from the rim of the TOM.

Thanks for the video! I wish you could explain how to use an arduino to send midi to trigger the different voices in the next part, that would be awesome.

TBH it shouldn't be that difficult. Simple digi pins would trigger it. All the pads share an earth so just connect a digi output to the other wire. www.sdiy.org/richardc64/synsonic/schema030709.gif You will need dac to do velocity as pwm will not work. If you earth the arduino to the earth on the synsonic you will only need a short pulse to trigger the circuit. But you will have to disconnect the pad as when you hit it it would send a high voltage into the arduino and probably blow it up!.

@@reallyniceaudio Yes it totally makes sense. DAC is the way to go. You are right about the one-way path to the soundchip to avoid getting the synsonics 5V feeding back to the arduino when beating the pad up. Would you patch the triggers from the arduino on the piezzo to soundchip path or before the MCU (input12-16)? Thanks for your reply! Cheers from Canada Damien

Neat video. Could you tell me where you sourced the schematic? The snare on my machine has packed in giving just the click but no noise. Probably the noise chip but I don't want to go poking around till I know what's what. Ta
