Great video Matt. Showing the percentages really gives a great idea of where shots are lost.

Matt, I love the approach, fail to plan,plan to fail. The targets are just measurements that keep us all on track, though when over the ball just give it a damn good crack! Great video

Matt, you seem to have a way of talking yourself out of a shot and then you're disappointed when you miss it. The magic of this game is the unexpected, embrace it!

Matt, your golf profession doesn’t lend itself to maintaining golf standards. When you had the lesson with your father, he talked about the basics not being used. You play exhibition golf as all KZbinrs do, often hitting shots that you wouldn’t in competition. Trouble is that becomes the new normal, so your game becomes an exhibition rather than a mapped progress around a course. If you and your pals Pete and Andy are serious about qualifying for the open, some competitions against each other, with something on the line might sharpen your minds. It’s about being a junior with aspirations again, qualified risk taking rather than rash risk taking. Use the basics, increase your swing speed (albeit, that should have started months ago) and play the courses of your youth trying to beat your personal bests. You know the games in there, it’s dragging it out again. I find if i dont work on speed regularly, at my age it drops quickly, so gym work, stretching and range speed work to get the drives that leave you sensible clubs in, without this greens in regulation become history, up goes the handicap. Some more daddy time is on the cards

So if I were to take similar stats, fairway in regulation is only off the tee, less the par 3s? Also would the 2nd shot on a par 5 be counted towards that stat? Up and down are just short chips, but more subjective? Or is it aiming to under 10 ft to the hole? Always find your videos instructive.

I always feel emotional watching you Matt. You play some great shots, it would be my dream to drive the ball the way you do, but a some point through the round it always falls apart. What hope to high handicappers like me have 😳

The single most important statistic for scoring is “ length of first putt” which means hitting it closer with short irons and short game. If you practice, 80% of your practice should be chipping, pitching within 90 yards and starting putts online. If you don’t practice, you need to get lucky. Many players have used the phrase, “the more I practice, the luckier I get.”

Matt, I am nowhere near your standard of golfer but we similar in when we try to play safe off the tee it goes wrong Do a video where unless it's a par 3 you take your driver As if you hit trouble with driver at least you closer to the green

Hi Matthew. Just fell on your video. I've never seen your channel before. Out of interest, what is your handicap? You have quite a nice solid swing. But you know, in order to play consistently off scratch, your short game has to vastly tighten up and improve. Also, your positional play off the tee. But I'm saying what you already know. Good luck with your quest. I can see a lot of great potential there. Best wishes Rich

I thought that was an interesting video. What it highlighted for me was that you lose a lot of strokes around the green with ordinary chipping. Your 'poor' approach shots weren't actually that bad, but you failed to get up and down even once. I think a focus on chipping practice would dramatically improve your score - and your confidence.

@davidclissold44817 ай бұрын
You got it on 9, bad course management. Also, you need to putt instead of chip except you are a pro so you will not do that. Your bad chipping cost you 3 shots. Work on that! My cap is 5-6. Off-green or white tees. I am close to shooting my age off of the forward tees. I putt everything I can. I am 69 years old. I carry my drives 220- 230. As you said maybe give consideration to taking an extra club for control. Your ball striking is great.

Without trying to sweeten it up, that was a pretty poor show if you want to be a scratch golfer. You obviously can do it, just hit the ball and stop messing about.
