Glad you have come back to Fulford. It was a tough day @ open qualifying, the standard was very impressive. If I were you I would be making regular visits to Fulford and the other possible venues for next years qualifying so you know them like the back of your hand.

Great to see you back at my home club again Matt. Loved watching how you played the course .....great strategy except for the 12th and 18th.....the trees on 12 are quite dence and that drive on 18 is narrow.....but your golf is getting stronger and stronger...keep it up!

Insane play from behind the trees, which then caused a loss in concentration, especially when you are trying to improve your score through better course management.Just threw a good round away. Would you have played that shot if a you had holed a couple of earlier puts and were still level par?

Fulford is such a hard track Matt. You need to be totally on your driving game to score round there. Enjoyable seeing you play a course I’m fortunate enough to play regularly with friends who are members there. Fulford is also home of ‘The Golf Show’…maybe give Paul a shout and get a round with him, pick his brains on how to play the course?🤔

Nice looking course & looks tough with the bunkers. Watching there I felt you maybe had a mindset of avoiding a bad score vs pushing for a good one. Put another way just give the driver a lash

A 15 degree driver.... A 3 wood 😉 Something I use off the tee on any hole under 400 yds if the layout/bunkers permit

Positivity needs to be tempered by probability. Your round changed on attempting a hero shot. I look forward to your next attempt here. 😀
@johndonaghy567423 күн бұрын
The 18th is a very easy eagle. Just flirt with the trees on your right with a full driver, tiny draw. You should now have a full 5 iron attacking the bumps on the left side of the green. This shot should kick your ball close to the pin. (Use a slight fade to help the ball jump off the Bankside). Now you can just putt it in
@huwmorgan51Ай бұрын
A very tough track. A bit of a brain fart on 12 - I couldn't believe you were going directly at a clump of trees! One observation - the tour pros hit driver much more often than you do. You're not going to get a lot of birdies coming in from 180 years, so I think you need to pick at least 8 holes that you're going to hit driver and have confidence in your ability.
@thevoiceofcod643Ай бұрын
Solid round all things considered. 🥂 odd as it may be, I was typing this as you were teeing off at 18. Saw the OB. But I’ll stand on my original opinion.
@iankerr9089Ай бұрын
Golf is a silly game! But it’s about the bigger picture, yes you scored worse than open Qual. However it was due to the hero shot on 12! Play the simple sideways shot you can easily regroup, better plan this time just a wee bit of ego got in the way and that is why golf is a silly game! The course changes everyday (weather, pin position etc) but what can stay the same is mindset, but where is the fun in that! Great content as always! Fast becoming my fave you tube golfer

hey positive matt how ya doing ? i think the mindset is what golf is all about , it is a LIFE teacher ...how do you deal with adversity ? can you maintain perspective of relative importance and just continue to do the best you can with each shot required of you ? ....great stuff to teach your little one .... ask yourself this as often as you need ....which matt fryer would you like your progeny to watch videos of ? and i think YOU like this version of matt fryer better ....still funny as the course is gorgeous so losing nothing and gaining a better level of mental health :)

Overall, Matt, that was some pretty solid golf yes the putter wasn't really hot but as I was told by an old pga pro I've you can 2 putt every green your not going to be to far wrong score wise for the handicap golfer a wee bit different for you but on another day I bet 2 or 3 of those close efforts would possibly drop.. Now to the driver, oh boy it is definitely not behaving, question what's your 3 wood doing 😊 Another great vlog these red ones are very enjoyable 👍
@mikecarlstrom6749Ай бұрын
You should play it again, but utilize driver or 3 wood more. See what you would score. You hit your two iron awesome, but leave very long approach shots, even for a pro. I would play this course from the whites and be happy to break 100😂. Greta golf and appreciate the positive attitude. Thanks

Matt, it would be interesting to do a round without talking to us while you play. Film it and do commentary afterward, and see if that makes a difference in your score or concentration. After all, in a competition, you are really not talking, so the dynamic is very different.
@jaseishappyАй бұрын
Golf for you that I would like to see you go back there and have a match vs Carter or Finch or someone
@peterb652Ай бұрын
That was an interesting round to watch. I think you possibly got too conservative off the tee and left yourself some pretty long approach shots. That in turn makes getting close to the pin difficult, so you're relying on long putts for birdies. I thought 3 wood might have been a better option on some holes - more risky, but hit well gives you shorter approaches and the chance to put the ball close. It does bring more trouble into play off the tee, though, so I suppose it depends on how confident you feel with 3 wood on the day. You did seem to be losing your wood shots to the right, largely, so maybe the 2-iron strategy was the wiser move on the day.
@stuartmccafferty8964Ай бұрын
I love it. Stupid boy, stupid game. We’re all the same… we ignore the challenge and we see an opportunity. That moment of madness when we believe we are Seve 😂😂😂 Your round was so top notch at the start. Far better than the open. Stop scoring in your head. It is your downfall. May the force be with you.
@stewartadams4611Ай бұрын
I think a decent round given the conditions Matt. But that decision on 12 mate, oh dear🤦♂️ I know the 2-iron works as a fairway finder, but can't help thinking a lower score is on the cards if you get the big stick or 3-wood out and take on some of those bunkers. Here's me, giving advice to a Pro about lowering scores.😂

One day in the near future, Matt, Pete and Rick might walk onto the green and have a look at where they want to land the ball and how it will roll out, before they chip over a bunker.😂 Instead they just hit and hope and then tell us all, how stupid the game is, or how bad the swing was, or how early it is. Excuses.

Its funny how over 18 holes even when we try to play conservative at some point we think we can thread the needle and give it a try (usually with horrible results) I think hole 12 cost you 2 shots, and then the hangover cost you another on the next hole. All for course management, but you’re literally scared to hit driver. 450 yard holes and hitting irons off the tee and leaving 170/180/190 in. You don’t score from these yardages. 570 yard par 5, iron off the tee and make bogey. Hit it far and use the scoring clubs. You have a negative mindset and it’s a touch embarrassing. Go out and attack the golf course properly.
