Thank you so very much for the easy to grasp explanation of the preparation day for the Passover and the last supper. It has long been a prayer for our very small Messianic congregation to understand. We're also asking for wisdom, knowledge and understanding on how to observe new moon festivals each month. We had our first get together, only 2 of us, and all we did was confess our desire to please YHVH and we prayed for our biological families, our congregation and for ourselves to be led by the Holy Spirit into obedience to the Eternal Word given to us so graciously, to know Him and to be known by Him. Oh that He may teach us His Ways, that we may express our love for Him through loving what He loves, hating what He hates and agreeing with Him because He is everything to us Baruch Ha'Shem Adonai🙌👑📜🔥🙌💜

Curt Smith, This is not widely known, but but it will explain your query. Explanation for the two (2) Passovers celebrated two (2) days apart: - According to God's method for determining the New Moon (i.e. beginning of the lunar month) was at the optical conjunction of the Sun, earth and moon at the point in time when the moon was not visible to the naked eye when viewed from Jerusalem. According to GOD'S CALENDAR defined in the Bible: - 🔹The year began on Nisan 1, so Nisan was the first (1st) month of the year. (Esther 3:7) 🔹The 'First Passover' (Pesach) was celebrated in people's PRIVATE HOMES in the 'first (1st) month' of the year on Nisan 14. (Ex 12:1-28) 🔹The 'Second Passover' (Pesach Sheni) was celebrated by people who were unable to celebrate the First Passover. The Second Passover was celebrated in the 'second (2nd) month' of the year on Iyar 14, which is exactly one month after God's appointed day for the First Passover on Nisan 14. (Num 9:1-14) 🔹In Bible times the day began at sunset 🌇 of one day, and ended at sunset 🌇 of the next day. 🔹The Passover lamb (which represented the body of Jesus), was required to be 'prepared' during the twilight hour (a.k.a. the evening twilight, or the 'eleventh hour'), which is the last hour of the day prior to sunset 🌇, on the 'day of Preparation' which is Nisan 13, and is the day before the Passover on Nisan 14. (Ex 12:1-11) Based on astronomical data, the Preparation of the Passover lamb in the year of death of Christ was from 5:20 p.m. to 6:20 p.m. on Nisan 13, and this corresponds to Wednesday 5 April of AD 30 on the calculated Gregorian calendar. 🔹The time of day was measured using a sundial because mechanical and electronic devices for measuring time had not been invented. The sundials were accurate but not precise to the minute or second, because the increment markings on the sundial were not finely detailed. Note: From hereon, all references to the Passover pertain to the First Passover that was celebrated on Nisan 14. During their captivity in Babylonia, the 'unbelieving' but highly religious Orthodox Jews were deceived on the measurement of the New Moon that marked the beginning of the lunar month. The Babylonian method for measuring the New Moon (i.e. beginning of the lunar month) was at the first appearance of the moon crescent 🌙, which was two (2) days after the conjunction of the Sun, earth and moon. Interestingly, Islam has adopted the same methodology, which leads me to wonder if there is a connection between Babylon and Islam 🌙. The above resulted in two (2) annual Passovers being celebrated by the Jews: - 🔹The 'believing' Jews (which included Christ and His disciples) celebrated the Passover on God's 'appointed' day for the Passover, which is Nisan 14. 🔹The 'unbelieving' but highly religious Orthodox Jews (i.e. Pharisees, Sadducees, Essens, etc), who were also the vast majority, celebrated the Passover on Nisan 16, which was two (2) days after God's 'appointed' day for the Passover on Nisan 14. However, the 'unbelieving' but highly religious Orthodox Jews believed that Nisan 16 was Nisan 14. Odd, but true! So, to the 'unbelieving' but highly religious Orthodox Jews: - 🔹Nisan 13 was Nisan 11 🔹Nisan 14 was Nisan 12 🔹Nisan 15 was Nisan 13 🔹Nisan 16 was Nisan 14, and son on. To repeat for emphasis, the 'believing' Jews, including Jesus and His disciples, celebrated the Passover on GOD'S APPOINTED day, and therefore, the correct day for the Passover on TRUE Nisan 14. However, the 'unbelieving' but highly religious Jews (Pharisees, Sadducees, Essens, etc), celebrated the Passover on the FALSE date for the Passover on Nisan 16, but believing it to be Nisan 14. The above explains why Jesus and His disciples celebrated the Passover on God's appointed day on Nisan 14, then went to the garden of Gethsemane on the following morning (which was still the day of the Passover because the day began at sunset 🌇 of one day, and ended at sunset 🌇 of the next day). Jesus was arrested in the early evening of the 'next' day after the Passover (i.e. Nisan 15), and was crucified on the following morning (which was still Nisan 15 because Nisan 15 did not end until sunset 🌇 of the day on which Jesus was arrested in the garden of Gethsemane, and also tried and crucified, and died). Jesus died in the afternoon at the 9th hour (3:20 p.m. according to astronomical data) on Nisan 15 on God's calendar, which is the same day on which He was arrested in the garden of Gethsemane (remember, the day began at sunset 🌇 of one day and ended at sunset 🌇 of the next day). Therefore, Jesus died on Nisan 15 on God's calendar, and this date corresponds to Friday 7 April of AD 30 on the calculated or extrapolated Gregorian calendar. The 'unbelieving' Orthodox Jews (i.e. Pharisees, Sadducees, Essens, etc), wanted the Roman soldiers to crucify Jesus prior to their annual Passover on Nisan 16 (which they falsely thought was Nisan 14), and which on that particular year fell on the weekly Sabbath. And when the annual Passover fell on the weekly Sabbath, the Sabbath was called the 'high day' (John 19:31). So, in the year of the death of Christ (but not every year), the annual Passover fell on the weekly Sabbath, so the weekly Sabbath was a 'special' Sabbath (i.e. the 'high day). After the death of Christ at the 9th hour (3:20 p.m.) of Nisan 15 (corresponds to 7 April of AD 30 on the calculated Gregorian calendar), the 'unbelieving' Orthodox Jews who attended the crucifiction until the death of Christ, had only two (2) hours to return home and 'prepare' the Passover lamb during the 'evening twilight' (a.k.a. the 'eleventh hour'), because the Sabbath began at sunset 🌇, which according to astronomical data at that time of the year was 6:20 p.m. (see Note below). Note: The 'day of Preparation' is the day before the annual Passover (John 19:14; 19:31; 19:42; and in other gospels). And in the year of the death of Christ (but not every year), the 'day of Preparation' was also the day before the weekly Sabbath. (Mark 15:42) Notice that John 19:42 states that 'they' (i.e. the disciples of Jesus, including Joseph of Arimathaea, and Nicodemus who first came to Jesus by night), buried the body of Jesus in a sepulcher (tomb) in a hurry because of the 'Jews' 'Preparation day' (i.e. the day before the annual Passover), which to the 'unbelieving' Jews was Nisan 13, but the TRUE date was Nisan 15 according to GOD'S CALENDAR. (John 19:42) Notice that John 19:42 includes the term 'Jews' in the text '... the Jews' preparation day…' Why? Because the day of the death of Christ was the day before the 'false' date for the annual Passover, which was Nisan 16. However, the' unbelieving' Orthodox Jews (i.e. Pharisees, Sadducees, Essens, etc), thought that that day was Nisan 14. Remember that Christ and the disciples had already observed the day of Preparation two (2) days earlier on God's 'appointed' day for the Preparation of the Passover lamb, which was on TRUE Nisan 13. The term 'the Jews' preparation day' in John 19:42 and elsewhere in the gospels, is used to distinguish the 'false' day of Preparation that was observed by the vast majority of unbelieving Jews, from God's appointed 'true' day for the Preparation that was observed by the tiny minority of 'believing' Jews, including Christ and His disciples. And exactly the same applies to the day of the annual Passover. During the last hour prior to sunset 🌇 (a.k.a. the 'evening twilight' or the 'eleventh hour'), of Nisan 13 (which in that particular year began at 5:20 p.m. and ended at 6:20 p.m.), the Passover lamb was humanly slaughtered and prepared, but the roasting of the Passover lamb could not begin until sunset 🌇 (i.e. the beginning of the day of the Passover on Nisan 14), which at that particular time of year began at 6:20 p.m. (according to astronomical data), and in that particular year was also the weekly Sabbath, hence being termed the 'high day' (or special Sabbath) in John 19:31. So, in the year of the death of Christ, the weekly Sabbath began three (3) hours after the death of Christ at the 9th hour of the day (3:20 p.m. according to astronomical data). And because the law of the Lord prohibited work (including burials) on the weekly Sabbath: - 🔹From the perspective of the weekly Sabbath that began at sunset 🌇 (6:20 p.m. according to astronomical data), the disciples had to bury Christ prior to sunset 🌇 (6:20 p.m.) on the day of His death. 🔹From the perspective of the 'false' day of Preparation on Nisan 15 (which the majority of unbelieving Jews thought was Nisan 13), the disciples had to bury Christ prior to the beginning of the 'evening twilight' or the 'eleventh hour' (which is the last hour prior to sunset 🌇, and which in that particular year began at 5:20 p.m. and ended at 6:20 p.m. The above infers that the disciples had only two (2) hours in which to bury Christ. The date of death of Jesus on 7 April of AD 30 (Nisan 15) is derived from the following scriptures in the Bible: 🔹Mark 14:32-36,37,40,45-46 🔹Mark 15:1,25,33-34,37,42-43,46 🔹John 18:28-30 🔹John 19:16,31 I hope this explanation is beneficial to your understanding of the Bible.

Mt.26.26, mk.14.22, lk.22 19 1cor.11.23.....He took bread G740 artos leavened broke and said eat this is my body. Not Passover
@datepalm1969

@@russcollins4762 Hi Russ Collins! Thank you for your reply. In Matthew 26:26 and elsewhere, the word 'bread' (Strong's #G740), Greek: ἄρτος (artos), is not restricted to 'leavened' bread, but can equally apply to 'unleavened' bread (see Strong's and Thayer's definitions below). The 'applicable' definition is dependent on the context in which the word is used. And the context of the usage of a particular word is determined by reviewing (and studying if required) the other words in the sentence and if required the surrounding text, using hermeneutics. The New Testament uses 138,162 different Greek words that are derived from only 5,437 Greek words. The ancient Hebrew language of the Old Testament consisted of only approximately 8,000 ancient Hebrew words. This necessitated multiple applications or definitions of the same word, but the applicable definition was easily determined by the context in which the particular word was used simply by reading the surrounding text (usually, albeit not always, the text preceding the word in question). Despite consisting of over 200,000 words, the modern English language has many words that are spelled exactly the same and yet have multiple and completely different meanings as a noun, verb, or adjective. For example, the word ball ⚽ can be defined as a physical object for playing a game (e.g. baseball ⚾, basketball 🏀, football 🏈, etc); or it can be defined as dance event; or it can be an expression of enjoyment (e.g. ''I'm having a 'ball' writing this comment!"😂) In Matthew 26:26, the word 'bread' (Strong's #G740), Greek: ἄρτος (artos), Noun. Strong's Definition: From G142; bread (as raised) or a loaf: - (shew-) bread loaf. Thayer's Definition: food composed of flour mixed with water and baked; the Israelites made it in the form of an oblong or round cake, as thick as one's thumb, and as large as a plate or platter hence it was not to be cut but broken; loaves were consecrated to the Lord; of the bread used at the love-feasts and at the Lord's Table; food of any kind. So, because in this case the word 'bread' is used in the context of the Passover and the week-long 'feast of unleavened bread' the 'applicable' definition of the word 'bread' in Mathew 26:26 and in the companion scriptures you have referred to must be 'unleavened' bread rather than 'leavened' bread, because it is reasonable to assume that Christ and His disciples fully complied with the law of the Lord in the Old Testament which relates to the Passover (see Exodus 12:1-11, and verse 8 specifically states that the Passover lamb must be eaten with 'unleavened' bread). A chapter division at the end of Matthew 26:16 would be appropriate to mark the new topic of the Preparation of the Passover lamb in the evening twilight (5:20 p.m. to 6:20 p.m. according to astronomical data) on the true Nisan 13, which was followed by roasting the Passover lamb immediately after sunset 🌇 on Nisan 14, which is the same day according to the Gregorian calendar, but is the 'next' day (i.e. Nisan 14) according to God's calendar. Remember, the day began at sunset 🌇, not at midnight. Although not critical, another chapter division at the end of Matthew 26:35 would be appropriate to mark the 'new topic' of the arrest of Christ in the garden of Gethsemane which took place in the early evening (i.e. shortly after sunset 🌇) of the 'next' day after the Passover, which was the 'beginning' of Nisan 15, and corresponds to Thursday 6 April of AD 30 on the calculated Gregorian calendar. However, to the 'unbelieving' but highly religious Jews, this was the 'beginning' of the 'day of Preparation' on the 'last hour' of which, the Passover lamb had to be 'prepared' (i.e. humanley slaughtered and washed), but not roasted because roasting of the Passover lamb by the 'unbelieving' Orthodox Jews had to commence immediately after sunset 🌇 of the 'next' day on Nisan 16, which to them was Nisan 14 according to the corrupted 'Jewish calendar' that was based on the Babylonian method for determining the New Moon. I am using the term 'God's calendar' in order to distinguish it from the 'Jewish calendar' because the latter was discrepant on average by two (2) days because the 'unbelieving' but highly religious Jews adopted the Babylonian method for determining the New Moon at the sighting of the first moon crescent 🌙, rather than at the optical conjunction of the Sun, earth and moon, which was the method used by the Israelites. (Gen 1:14; Num 28:14; 1Sam 20:1-34; Isa 66:23) The passage of scripture in Matthew 26:17-30 describes the events that took place on God's 'appointed' days of 'Preparation' (Nisan 13), and the 'Passover' (Nisan 14): - 🔹Verse 17 clearly states that this event took place on the first day of the 'unleavened' bread, and notice also that the disciples asked Jesus, “Where will you have us prepare for You to eat the Passover. Therefore, this event took place on the correct 'day of Preparation' for the Passover lamb, which was the 'true' Nisan 13. 🔹Verse 18 states that Jesus told the disciples to go into the city [Jerusalem] to a 'certain man' and tell him that Jesus will keep the Passover at his 'house' with His disciples. Although not explicitly stated in the Bible, obviously the 'certain man' knew in advance about the arrangement for the Passover at his house. 🔹Verse 19 states that the disciples did as Jesus had instructed them, and they (i.e. the 'certain man' and the disciples) made ready the Passover (see Note below). Note: To comply with the requirements of the law of the Lord, the unidentified 'certain man' acquired the Passover lamb (or goat), three (3) days earlier on the true Nisan 10, and 'guarded' it inside his house until the Passover on the true Nisan 14. The 'preparation' (i.e. the humane slaughter, collection of some blood, and washing of the Passover lamb), was done during the 'evening twilight' on the true Nisan 13, which began one hour PRIOR TO sunset 🌇, and ended PRIOR TO sunset 🌇 (i.e. began at 5:20 p.m. and ended NO LATER than 6:20 p.m. according to astronomical data). (Ex 12:3-6). The blood from the Passover lamb was applied (smeared) onto the two side posts and on the upper door post of the house. (Ex 12:7) 🔹Verses 20-21 state that when it was 'evening' (i.e. immediately after sunset 🌇 of the true Nisan 14), Christ sat at the table with the twelve disciples, and they began eating. Obviously, they were eating the Passover lamb with Unleavened bread and bitter herbs. And prior to eating, the Passover lamb was first 'roasted' (not boiled or steamed) until it was fully cooked. (Ex 12:9) The roasting began immediately after sunset 🌇 (i.e. the beginning of the true Nisan 14), and was completed one to two hours later. The entire fully roasted Passover lamb was then eaten with 'unleavened' bread and bitter herbs, during the night 🌃, and except for the bones, the entire lamb had to be consumed PRIOR TO sunrise 🌅, which was still Nisan 14 (see Note below). (Ex 12:8-10) Note: While eating the Passover lamb, the garments of the participants must be 'girded' (wrapped up and fastened, for example, using a belt or rope) around their 'loins' (hips), and they must wear their shoes on their feet, and hold their staff in their hand; and must eat the Passover lamb in haste (hurriedly). (Ex 12:11). This is loaded with significance; briefly in the New Testament context, it means that in order to be raptured, one must be fully ready at all times to meet Christ in the air. Obviously, to be ready, one is required to fully comply with all the commandments of God, the first of which is to receive God's Holy Spirit like the disciples in the Bible on the day of Pentecost with the audible and visible manifestation or sign of speaking in 'other' (foreign, unknown) 'tongues' (languages) as the Holy Spirit gives the 'utterance' (speech), following which one must be 'led' (controlled, guided, influenced, motivated, taught, etc) by the Holy Spirit. (Acts 1:4-8; 2:1-4; Rom 8:14; and many more) 🔹Verses 21-25 are about the betrayal of Christ by Judas Iscariot. 🔹Verse 26 states that the 'broken' bread represents the 'broken' body of Christ. And because 'leaven' represents 'corruption' (spoilage), the 'bread' here is 'unleavened' (see Exodus 12:8; Matthew 26:17). 🔹Verses 27-28 state that the 'cup' (of unfermented grape 🍇 juice) represents the life-blood of Christ of the New Testament, which is shed for the remission of sins. 🔹Verse 29 by implication infers that Jesus will not participate in further Passovers with His disciples on earth until the elect are raptured and enter God's heaven. 🔹Verse 30 states that after Christ and the disciples had sung a hymn, they went to the Mount of Olives (see Note below). Note: Although the time is not explicitly stated in the Bible, Christ and His disciples began walking to the Mount of Olives in early morning on day of the Passover on the true Nisan 14. Remember, the entire Passover lamb had to be consumed during the 'night' 🌃 PRIOR TO sunrise 🌅of the following morning. And because the day began at sunset 🌇, the morning after the night 🌃 during which they ate the Passover lamb, was still the same day of Nisan 14, but is the 'next' day on the calculated Gregorian calendar. At the time of Christ, the journey on foot from Jerusalem to the Mount of Olives was said to be a Sabbath day's journey (see Acts 1:12). However, given that part days were counted as whole days, the journey on foot was probably around two or possibly a few hours. Please feel free to communicate.

Forgive me, I know you're Hebrew and all, but, "The Last Supper" is not the Passover meal??? They were in the upper room for 7days? Those 2 statements make Jesus, and the Bible a liar. Jesus said in Matthew 22:15 He was eating the Passover meal with them and He was betrayed that very night. So there was not 7 days...
