It's actually just the chords from Megalomania played as arpeggios. And the Megalomania chords are from Rachmaninoff's piano concerto no. 2, so it's not really improvisation... still good though

A discussion forgotten long ago... but anyway, I don't quite think it's been mastered. Playing arppegios this way is quite easy, and as long as the chords aren't too complicated, I think he is absolutely cappable of making this up on the spot. But then I don't think he actually did - he's playing these chords in quite a few recordings, so I'd not dare to call this an improv. And yeah, seeing Matt play actually any Rach piece would be amazing.

In my opinion I believe he is arpegiating(New Word) the chords from Megalomania.

@rabidgunfight Thanks. You're absolutely right, I've even listened to this piece recently and thought that it had been an inspiration for "Megalomania". Huh, human memory. Cheers:-)

@rabidgunfight what opus? You know, I dare to doubt that it's the piece in an unchanged form, I've seen him play several classical pieces of the difficulty of Rach, and none of those was actually played like the original - he simplifies them :

I hate to be one of the annoying people on here asking for sheets or stuff, but I was wondering if you could tell me the chords. I can't find any proper sheets for this.

that is improvisation...he's improvising on the chords, he's playing it differently than he would normally, all chords have been used before, that's not the definition of improv, the way you play it defines if its improv or not

people always think his piano skill is extraordinary, but it really isn't. He is a great pianist and all, but all he is doing when he "improvises" is play arpeggios.
