he auditioned to be a call-on pianist for London Symphony Orchestra, and he got several call backs. He didnt make it in the end, but the fact that he got any call backs at all proves he is utterly amazing. besides, if he decided to do work with LSO, we wouldnt have an Absolution or BHaR album.

Translation of every word he said (mostly, keep in mind that we do not know what the other person is saying who is speaking to Matt - "The First one was good... uh ah, the one after the end... You can keep all these x's (??)... what's that?... What do you mean like, you come in here or.... erm, I'd like to stay in here... Erm, I think you should come in here and here the sound quality..." And after that, he just talks about some technical things about the recording..

That's Matt's charm ! Talks,but few people understand what is he saying, but thanks for "translating words".I ,need it.Though,he compensate by his huge musical skills.20" of piano = 1' of talking.Or more !

so the end was la campanella, but what is the hurricane and butterflies beginning part from? or did he compose that from scratch, because it seems really rachmaninoff-ish

Im pretty sure this is written by Bellamy in the style of Rachmaninoff. At least I don't recognize it from any Rach work. How ever if Im wrong tell me where it is from, and the exact timestamp for where it is in the concert..
@AndyFilms20003 жыл бұрын
@@Atlas65 Yeah I agree. It sounds similar to parts of the cadenza in Rachmaninoff’s 3rd concerto, 1st movement.

He has been playing since he was a boy. He has been known to interpret some Beethoven and Chopin pieces into some songs. One of the tracks Muse has made, he did 'Moonlight Sonata' but an Octave higher I believe. Sounds very well!

La Campanella is usually played (at least the versions I’ve heard) with a view on total destruction of the keys - la Campanella goes fucking *hard*.... but I really like his softer approach and I wish more people played it that way..., would be interesting to know if he kept playing it that way or if he eventually attacked it the way it seems everyone else does.

This is the Paganini-Liszt Campanella. For one, it is on the piano, the other arrangement is for violin. I think the reason that we don't hear the whole thing is because Matt can't play the really complex concert pianist middle section. He's learning classical piano as we speak though, so maybe we'll get a whole performance at the Albert Hall, V Festival or Ireland?

@bahuka91 La Campanella is a piece of Romantic piano music. They're a bunch of etudes for piano by Franz Liszt. If memory serves, Liszt wrote them all based on themes by another composer named Niccolo Paganini. I haven't spent much time with Liszt, though, so I can't remember off the top of my head.

@BenMcCormack91 Absolutely correct. La Campanella is the nickname of the 3d piece of Lizst's adaptation of some of Paganini's violin concerts. Named the Grandes études de Paganini.

I'm not sure why your comment was voted down. it's definitely not the real La Campanella -- it's a very simplified version of it, and slowed down. He's still a very excellent pianist as far as pop musicians go, and it's neat how he uses a lot of classical influence in his music.
@ester424213 жыл бұрын
@kevindesmetz that's not exogenesis, listen to another la campanella and you'll hear it. plus, i don't think he had exogenesis ready the time this video was made.

The first part he played was the end to the solo of Butterflies and Hurricanes. After he finishes speaking, he played the first part to Liszt's "La Campanella". How could you NOT know this?
@darkkshines16 жыл бұрын
I didnt say that at all! i said people who usually insult other peoples musical ability usually have none themselves. And Matt's piano is such a small part of the whole package. He wrote almost all of their songs, his voice is unique, and he can play some pretty wicked guitar. And i am from Australia, so Hobo is probably more true than you think :P

i believe this was part of the studio recording of butterflies and hurricanes, then he was talking to the producer or the rest of the band from 0:18 onwards. Then he asked them to do something, then started to fiddle around with the piano

He's absolutely amazing! It doesn't matter whether or not this is the real La Campanella, of course he can't play as well as a classical composer, he is mostly self taught as far as I've known, and he didn't play it for several years, at least not very much. I think it is great, you don't hear much piano music in rock which is so heavily influenced by classical works as Muse's is. Matt Bellamy is very talented.

I don't think you know as much about Rachmaninoff as you presume you do, because the Bells was a piece written for orchestra and choir, or maybe you were thinking of one of the nicknames of the prelude opus 3 no. 2. The beginning sounds more like some chromatic scales and improvisation, but I wonder if Matt COULD handle a rach concerto.

@NorthLimitation16 жыл бұрын
He's just taken Liszt's variation of the piece and arpeggiated the chords. I'm very aware that because it's on the piano it isn't automatically Liszt's. The only reason he doesn't play the stacatto octave leap is because he probably isn't technically able enough, which is no shame considering he's self-taught.
@nathanjv115 жыл бұрын

You're right in saying that we'll never know, but the evidence suggests that he can't; we have never seen him play such technically demanded pieces, he's self-taught and have developed a technique which would allow him is very unlikely (despite the fact that, let's be honest he's a musical God :P). He's learning classical piano at the moment (which suggests he's get some very high quality lessons), so maybe we'll here a nice Fantastia Impromptu come the Ireland Gigs? Let's hope so! :D

Do people honestly have to start arguments so often on here? Just watch the videos and enjoy. If you don't like it, fine. If you do, great. Arguing about others' opinions is just pointless. And please stop comparing Muse to Radiohead. They're two completely different bands. Some like Muse, some like Radiohead, some like both. No big deal. There's really no reason to argue about it.
