The Honing family of Bowen Island discovered just how vast a support network is needed when their son Matthew was diagnosed with cerebral palsy. BC Children's Hospital and Sunny Hill Health Centre have played an important role in Matthew's health and mobility.

This popped up on my feed as I follow many people, who have gone through similar experiences. Like myself with being born @ 23 weeks, losing my brother at birth and developed Meningococcal CEP B @ 6 weeks. Hydrocephalus @ 11. Just keep going and smiling.

Our daughter has a rare bone marrow disease called PNH. She recently was pregnant on a third try and they took the baby at twenty-nine weeks due to problems. The baby was born with a diagnosis of PVL. So I am watching and reading everything to try to be on top of what might be happening but you just don't know. Like this couple who found out one of their twins was born with CP. They probably missed a diagnosis of PVL. Because PVL is damage to the white matter of the brain where all the bundles of nerves are located that control your walking, talking, and moving are located. When you have a baby with a problem it's the same as having a dog with a problem. Neither can tell you what is the matter, so you have to be a detective and investigate everything. ❤️

So his parents deliberately paralyzed his legs!?!?!? And this hospital went along with it????
@Kiahboudreaufanning

Gregory Malchuk yes and they did it because he’s probably in spastic jerks which could’ve been very painful so paralyzing his legs was probably the most comfortable decision for him that’s why the hospital went along with it and why his parents thought that that would be the best for him

Gregory Malchuk They aren’t paralysing the legs altogether. They cut a small selection of nerves that cause spasticity. This is why it’s called selective dorsal rhizotomy. This enables the legs to become less rigid and painful. For some children it improves walking ability, for others it allows them to sit more comfortably in a wheelchair.
