Camp Teacher here. Girls are smart enough to keep quiet about their fictions. It has been the boys at my camp who cannot. If they girls are writing it they are keeping mum. The boys are the ones sharing and getting made fun of for it. We teach tolerance with it. We made one boy's story into a play one year. He's a journalist now covering stories in Africa. We need to encourage young writers. Not treat them badly for doing what they love.
