Matthew Rhys Knows the English-Welsh Rivalry More Than Most

James Corden welcomes his friend Matthew Rhys, and the two recall working together in the 1999 film "Whatever Happened to Harold Smith?" After Matthew how he almost found himself in hot water with the people of his homeland, Wales, he attempts to explain why he chose to restore a very old boat during quarantine. And James asks Matthew about his role in the miniseries "Death and Nightingales."

1600 years. It began around 410 when they were invited by vortigern to act as Coast guards against the Vandals and Visigoths if they turned their attention to Britain after the fall of Rome. The main reason is supposedly because most of the fighting men of Britain were in fact in the other world. Annwn...What would later become known as North America.

The English always maintain its a one way street in terms of rivalry, but having a standard level of knowledge where history is concerned shows that to be hilariously false. English and Welsh rivalry was ancient before Scotland was a twinkle in someones eye. The rivalry goes back almost 2000 Years. And lets be honest, you don't go through all the things the English did in regards to Wales if you weren't just little bit obsessed with something about the place.

I think we (the English) are very aware that we came to Britain as Anglo-Saxon invaders and that the Welsh (Britons) are an ancient people who we pushed out of what is now England and into the mountainous west of Britain (Wales). Not all Welsh men have the same accent, as with any country there are regional differences. Matthew is from Cardiff and Sir Anthony was born in Margam, Port Talbot which is about 30 miles away.

Its not a rivalry its a collective memory of how the arrogant and barbaric English class system has suppressed all Celts for centuries. My issue with the English is they think they are superior to me, since they have an inbred royal family, they think they have a blood line! Well in the 21st century, Lords, counts and kings should remain in the middle ages and the history books! Everyone is born equal and should have equal chance. But in the UK if you have a Posh accent you can get jobs and position a person with a regional accent can't. I have no issue with working class English, its the English class system I despise! Also I anyone who supports this system of hate! Lets hope for devolution for Wales, Scotland should have it soon and then we should join them. Leave the english with their Soverinity and their kings and queens, while everyone else lives in the 21 century.
