This is very critical to show fans and former athletes who never made it to the show. Fans talk about a college player having size and athleticism but most of the time, when they fail to make even the practice squad, it’s bc they can’t adjust to the playcall system at the NFL level and how complex these systems are and how they can change on you even during a route run.

Always blows my mind that these coaches feel some need to complicate things like this. You have all your plays, so assign a number, and just say that… I’d love for someone to break down why they make it so extreme, because from my seat, this is insane.
@thailannesbitt
@thailannesbitt 3 ай бұрын
You can look up football playbooks or coaches explaining the plays. It’s not as simple as just numbering plays. They have some plays numbered as stock plays BUT the coach might want to to change one for the routes from a slant to a skinny post so he has to say the play name then the WR position and what route he needs to run. But guess what? The post take longer to develop than the slant so he needs to tell the offensive line a new protection scheme because by default that play has a pass protection scheme for quick passes but they need to block longer so the tackles might have to get back further. There are more nuances than this but this is essentially why just having plays numbered isn’t enough. Coaches what to be able to specifically tailor a play for any situation.

I think the lingo allows for nuances in each play vs being able to just assign numbers…each part of the play call instructs a different group/player…it has to be easier than it sounds though…in the sense that, the names have connections to the action in some way or shape.

Brock Purdy poses insane processing power too . This video showcases imo the intangible of mental awareness, leadership, and athleticism. Jokes about golf, golf had seriously improved his mentals that playoff game between y’all was amazing . One of the best games last season easily .

Remembering all these plays and audibles is hard. Not just for the QB everyone has to know their assignment on every single play.

NFL play calls are insane! I remember calling “Ricky Blue bear X-Reverse sweep left pull” was to much to say its literally a jet sweep to right and the guard pulls…. 😂😂

It's a West Coast offense so about the thickness of a Bible and I'm being serious. But it all depends on your QBs football knowledge and his ability to read defenses at the line. Some players can retain information better than others. Peyton Manning coming out of college was this type of QB who could read a defense. Early on he had troubles but just growing pains. Tom Brady had to develop these same skills over the years.

Maybe that's because it was never a Goff issue.

@@troyclaerhout2412 Oh it was absolutely a Goff issue. He cant sense pressure. Clean pocket, he is surgical. You aren't always gonna get a clean pocket though. This is where Stafford is top 3 in the league, under pressure. Dude is a machine. No comparison. Stafford would never have lost that first superbowl to the Pats.

@@tjaydagreat Goff never had a problem as a Lion. Took them to the Conference Championship Game and if his receiver didn't drop TWO 4th down passes, they would have been in the Super Bowl.
