Oddly enough I got reintroduced to this tune because it was used as bumper music on a local talk station.... took me DAYS to find it online. Saw him at a festival in Atlanta back in the day along with Soup Dragons, The Connels, Jesus and Mary Chain, The Cramps, B52s, and a bunch of others.... I ended up in the first aid tent... remember kids, beware the brown acid.

Saw Matthew Sweet on this tour at The Beacon Theater in NYC in 1991(?) with The Indigo Girls (they had the same manager). They sold out several consecutive nights and I went and saw at least 4 of the shows. This lineup of Sweet's band was INCREDIBLE! One of the best live touring bands I've ever seen and they played the song lineup from the Girlfriend album just flawlessly. Oh, the great 90s memories when bands were up and coming a mile a minute. What a fabulous time to be alive and to be a music fan!

Throughout the 1980s, Quine made appearances as a session player on records by Tom Waits, John Zorn, Marianne Faithfull and Scritti Politti. Quine appeared on They Might Be Giants' 1994 album John Henry, and he also worked with pop songwriters/singers Lloyd Cole and Matthew Sweet during this period. Did the 90's have Bowie, Eno, Stevie Wonder, George Clinton, Iggy Pop, Lou Reed, Marc Bolan, Isaac Hayes, Bob Marley, Elvis Costello, the Clash and the Jam? I could go on all day. No? Oh, that was 70's. I guess you were just growing up and listening to Blur.

jeez man gimme a break already. that was like 30+ years, a few thousand bands/albums and many, many beers ago. It was my brother's record, I didn't say I constantly played the whole album, just that i played the vinyl. I only liked the one song. I remember what the label looked like, and my brother talking about them and how he never understood why they didn't make it bigger than they did. you done busting my balls yet, or should we continue the banter? I'm good with either option lol.

Every now and then, a song is just perfect. If I had no Idea who it was, I would record it and keep close. Believe it or not, Eric Johnson said he wrote "most of" Cliffs of Dover in one try. If you love guitar you know, that is a perfect song. I wanted to smack him but, God bless him for being so amazing.

Well, if that's what you want to make of it, it becomes your sentiment, not the artists. That's what they do- leave it up to you, make it personal for you that way. Even when songs are motiovated by the artrists' feelings or experiences, they are very often making it open for your personal interpretation so that the song means something you YOU. And then you buy the album.
