The song is saying that *not* breaking your stride is a bad thing, because you'll miss out on life. It is not an anthem celebrating refusing to 'slow down.' In fact, the song might even be subtly arguing that you did break your stride (stop the rush of life) in order to listen to it. Stride broken.

Just heard this song on the radio today, literally forgot it existed. About 20 years ago, when I was in elementary school, my mother and I were walking to where we waited for my bus to school. We weren't going to make it on time, and a cop who happened to be in the area of our apartment complex offered to drive us to the bus stop. Today, I recognized the beginning melody of this song and remembered that it was playing in the cop car while we were riding to the bus stop. It's crazy what can trigger distant memories.

Except it IS deep and complex. The chorus is completely deceptive, written totally from the perspective of the person the narrator is being broken up with by. The verses are just Matthew Wilder staring at this asshole who obviously didn't make their true feelings clear from the beginning going, "This is how they see what they're doing. As some kind of escapist vacation where my feelings mean nothing. What a load of bullshit!" It's genius.

I keep in touch with an old boyfriend from back in high school days he's married and has been for a couple decades but we still touch base once in awhile, we don't talk too much because he's married, but it's nice to stay in touch with someone from your past, even though when we were just kids we broke up, we had a miscarriage, we didn't end up getting married. After having this song stuck in my head, for the last few months, decided to listen to it. This song, among others, is now helping me understand that life "doesn't stop". I've been through hell, from being a victim of bullying, that lasted 12 years, to ending up in hospital, on more than one occasion, with 2019 being the most recent due to a severe health issue, I've pushed through the bad situations, no matter how painful they've been. Even though I have to contend with depression, and multiple forms of anxiety, the meaning of this song is always going to push me to keep on moving. I failed the same course of study 4 times, due to mental health and life, and physical health, and even though I failed it that many times, I'm still going to go back to finish it, to achieve my dreams. I'm only 27, and grew up listening to songs from the 70's and 80's, and this helps to keep me inspired, among other songs

~ Lyrics ~ Last night I had the strangest dream I sailed away to China In a little row boat to find ya And you said you had to get your laundry cleaned Didn't want no one to hold you What does that mean And you said Ain't nothin' gonna break-a my stride Nobody gonna slow me down, oh no I got to keep on movin' Ain't nothin' gonna break-a my stride I'm running and I won't touch ground Oh no, I got to keep on movin' You're on the road and now you pray it lasts The road behind was rocky But now you're feeling cocky You look at me and you see your past Is that the reason why you're runnin' so fast And she said Ain't nothin' gonna break-a my stride Nobody gonna slow me down, oh no I got to keep on moving Ain't nothin' gonna break-a my stride I'm running and I won't touch ground Oh no, I got to keep on moving Never let another girl like you work me over Never let another girl like you drag me under If I meet another girl like you, I will tell her Never want another girl like you, have to say, oh Ain't nothin' gonna break-a my stride Nobody gonna slow me down Oh no, oh no, I got to keep on moving Ain't nothin' gonna break-a my stride I'm running and I won't touch ground Oh no, I got to keep on movin' Ain't nothin' gonna break-a my stride Nobody gonna slow me down Oh no, oh no, I got to keep on moving Ain't nothin' gonna break-a my stride I'm running and I won't touch ground Oh no, I got to keep on movin' Ain't nothin' gonna break-a my stride Nobody gonna slow me down Oh no, I got to keep on moving Ain't nothin' gonna break-a my stride I'm running and I won't touch ground Oh no, I got to keep on movin' Ain't nothin' gonna break-a my stride Nobody's gonna slow me down, oh no ~ This Took me 2 Hours To Make I Didn't steal it from google I actually put My Heart into It! ~

This was my late grandpa’s favorite song. We used to call it his theme song. Every time I hear it on the radio I think it’s a sign of him. I miss him so much. I love you grandpa❤
