I used to play this game a while ago, it was almost impossible for me to maintain stealth. Whether it's because of my trigger-happy team mates or the enemies have f***ing x-ray/thermal vision, I can't seem to silently drop the hostiles w/out being detected. The only saving grace about 1 and 2 was that my teammates were dead eyes when it came to dropping hostiles. Stealth was easier to maintain on 3 and CA, but my teammates were shooting blindfolded, lol!

I have fleeting memories of going to my grandfathers house and playing this as a kid. I never got past the snow level would just play as much of it as I could over and over. It’s crazy how much comes rushing back as I watch this. Haven’t seen or heard anything to do with this game since then, feels so weird watching this. Something I love about video games is how much memories they hold. I find myself in these states where I just watch videos from all the games I played as a kid and there’s something about knowing that these universes still exist suspended in time that I take comfort in. Even all these years later and boomer (only name I instantly recognized when seeing this) and the squad still exist in their little universe and are still infiltrating ghost town over and over and doing their own thing somewhere

Great vid. Used to play this so much despite how hard it was (for me). I remember clawing my way through the Thailand level which felt like it went on for an eternity, the desert camp one with the helicopter. And this was all on the first difficulty lol.

So I've been watching a few Socom videos as of late and I have to say that your teammates can't shoot for shit in the later Socom games. In the first game your teammates drop the enemy in a heartbeat but in combined assault they need half a mag to down an enemy... none the less though I miss these games, oh and btw you are really good at Socom

Yea I have no interest in going beyond socom 2 because I think they just made the later games for online multiplayer only, and just slapped together a crappy campaign. Socom 2 was the best game they made for single player

@@matthewpalsky In fairness SOCOM 2 was the pinnacle of SOCOM's multiplayer as well. You could argue SOCOM 1 was the best, but SOCOM 2 just built upon the gameplay from its predecessor. Either way I remember the map design being terrible in SOCOM 3 and beyond as well as the bullet spray and fire rates etc... Just took a lot of the skill out of the game. Imagine having a Combined Assault style Co-Op for the SOCOM 2 campaign? Now that would be some fun.

@@satnav1980when Sony took over publishing rights for Socom during development of S3, they tried to make socom more like COD which resulted in the death of the series. To this day I will never buy another Sony product and I only emulate playstation games for free on a computer, never paying them a dime. Remember when Sony “updated” the 60G PS3s to stop being backward compatible? They ended up getting sued for it but it was chump change compared to how much they make off people buying their systems twice. Greedy fucking japanese businessmen lol

I’m currently going through socom 1 and 2 right now. I’m wondering from watching your play throughs if the suppressors are really necessary. What’s your reasoning for not using them? Range?

He likes the sound of unsupressed weapons. It also doesn't have an affect on the stealth rating. Just a few knife kills and you're locked in at 100%

No shit?? How would anybody have figured that out?? Lol you would assume the loud weapons would lower your stealth rating.. but then again only 5 weapons in the game are silenced (M4A1-SD, HK5SD, SR-25-SD, Mark23 SD, and 9mm Pistol). So if they programmed stealth to only be good with a silencer they’d be excising like more than three quarters of the game’s entire armory. I always assumed knife kills were good for stealth rating but I didn’t know simply getting a few of them could guarantee 100% stealth.. hmmm it almost seems like a programming oversight if that’s the case. Ideally it should be a combination of high stealth kills (such as the aforementioned knife kills), no alarms triggered, minimal enemy shots fired, no teammates wounded. The rating system always seemed so random to me and hard to pin down but I suppose it was very advanced for 2002 lol remember this game was in development during 9/11.

What’s the point of having your team mates deploy smoke? Is it so they don’t attack anyone?

My stupid teammate Boomer won't hold his fire even if you tell him to. If he gets too close to an enemy he'll shoot no matter what. So to get rid of him I have him deploy smoke in the opposite direction so that I can move in for a knife attack. I can't just shoot him in the head in the beginning because that would destroy my teamwork rating at the end.

Thats really interesting^^ Can you elaborate a bit on how exactly the Stealth and Teamwork rating works ? I sometimes completed missions with loud weapons and I somehow had a pretty high Stealth rating. Ive read somewhere that if you kill an enemy immediately after he discovers you counts as "stealthy" ? But im not 100 % sure.

The stealth in socom 1 has everything to do with how many knife kills you make. In the earlier missions 1 or 2 knife kills is enough for 100% stealth, but it seems like you need more than that in the later missions. Teamwork has everything to do with how many kills you make compared to your teammates. If you make too many kills or if you sit back and let your team make too many kills it will hurt your teamwork. There has to be a good balance. I know because I was playing the game on the pcsx2 where I can use savestates. I would complete a section and then abort the mission just to check on my teamwork rating and that is how I found out. Then I could go back to where I saved. Socom 2 is similar, but along with knife kills, headshots with a silenced weapon also count towards your stealth, but the max stealth I've ever gotten in Socom 2 is like 97% for some reason. Teamwork in Socom 2 is the same, except if you capture 1 or more enemies it almost guarentees 100% teamwork. You'll notice that I capture at least one enemy in every mission in Socom 2.
