If you’re constantly chasing after intense sensory experiences or big highs just to feel something, it might mean there’s some healing that needs to happen. You deserve to feel whole. Not just so you can enjoy the big moments, but so that the smaller, quieter ones can feel fulfilling too.

I think sometimes when people experience so much trauma at a young age, they go numb. However, the brain is working overtime to keep that person safe.

yeah and when the danger starts to vanish/ avoided/ delt with than the brain gradually restorse relaxed openness to sensivity and often needs a little hand have to switch to manual mode to change the gear 🩹☺️🏄‍♂️

As a recovering addict with C-Ptsd and PDD with anxiety issues this really really hit me... I've spent 17 months healing... and holy shit is it awful and beautiful at the same time. To be heard and understood is the ultimate gift. Thank you.

im seeing a friend starting to show signs of alcol addiction.. i know he will answer defensively to any form of confrontation but i dont want to see him fall into that pit. ill try breaking down these key concepts in a discussion with him, it may help him see something he doesnt right now

People tend to forget enjoying ordinary things they do every day. Maybe this is because their past still dominates their present

This is a great thing to think about, and a great way to categorize my current desire for a lot pf unhealthy things (over-eating, over drinking, porn and even just over-reacting). Thank you for giving me another angle to attack from.

I was not able to feel things for about a year, i started drinking at school, it did not make me feel more. It just made it feel like i was on autopilot during that time, i did not tell anyone about this, no one found out. I feel so much better now, i dont drink as much. I am now in college, i am 16 now, i was drinking at school at 15 it hasnt been long. I did not enjoy doing anything i used to but i am now. I am happy i can now feel things as i felt so dead it hurt. I dont know how to explain it but if i had to say one word for it id say dead.

Same here. Some ideas that ive stumbled over across the years (in addition to finding someone u trust to talk to openly and honestly, if you can): Apparantly journelling is supposed to help because it helps ennunciate things in a way u might not expect. Also not quiting on keeping your nutrition and vitamin levels balanced (even when u have to force urself). Taking the time while walking to look up and 'see' the sky or going for an aimless wander to see a street/part of town ur not familiar with. Tbh, i dunno what the right combination is for me, but these might help ground u again or put u on a track to find the answers u need.

So, I have something called alexithymia. It's common in neurodivergent people and basically means I have low emotional awareness. I personally, pick up on other people's emotions fine, but struggle identifying my own. I'm not saying you have the same issue, but I relate to knowing that something's wrong without knowing what. I can't count the number of times someone's said or done something and only when I mention it to another person do I realize I'm mad or upset. The big emotions can be nice just because I know what I'm feeling. I don't know if any of these things might help you, but I figure being more deliberate in paying attention might help and at the very least probably won't hurt. In addition to bouncing things off someone you trust and journaling I've found an emotional thesaurus to be a great tool. Also, if you do struggle with emotional awareness, paying attention to how your body feels can help (I usually get a little queasy when I'm upset or anxious). Slowing down and reflecting on what happened before I started feeling that way helps. With this issue you might try asking yourself what happened before you had the urge to go out do something to provoke those big feelings. Is there something else you might be trying to avoid feeling or distract yourself from?

This video felt judgmental to me. When you used the phrase, “the kind of people that…”. Of course something is “the matter”… that’s why they’re acting in those harmful ways. Show us what to do to heal those behaviors. We already carry so much shame from the consequences of our own ways.
