The key is to remember that some of the consonant pairs that make a specific sound when together (ch, rz, cz, sz etc.), all letters are pronounced only 1 way (no different ways of saying "a" like in English) and the fact that the accent is usually the strongest in the second-to-last syllable of the word with some exceptions.

@MattiavonSigmund3 жыл бұрын

@abahaytiske34513 жыл бұрын
@Andrew Yeah, that's the nominative case, I see. But no, "Urod" is not what I had in mind when I head it, for some reason I reformulated the Polish word in my head to Russian as "Urodstvo" but without the suffix. This word in Russian means just the opposite of beauty (ugliness). I find it funny how some similar terms in different languages can be so confusing. But I like Polish, I'm considering choosing it as the third language to learn.
@abahaytiske34513 жыл бұрын
@Andrew Yeah, but that's also similar to a Russian word "zavod", which mean a factory. Still not a 100% match, but these 2 terms already have some kind of connection. And "zovut" in Russian means "they call" or "go by [insert a name]". Dzięki!
@makermaker113 жыл бұрын
Ur odor
@cgt37043 жыл бұрын
@Andrew in Romanian, the word is closely similar to "Urâto" which means "Ugly". I guess it should be obvious since we do have a fair amount of slavic words like "da", "a iubi" (to love), "ciocan" (hammer) and , of course, everyones favourite, "ura".

Lithuanian has a lot of polish loanwords but I'm not sure if Polish has any Lithuanian loanwords. In Polish, "urodo" seems to mean "beauty". In Russian, "urod" means "ugly". Languages are weird.

Urodo,urodo Gdybym ja cię miała Miałabym jak chłopca Jakiego bym chciała (2x) Bo ta urodziwa Nie jest pracowita Czy to gospodyni Panna czy kobita Choć urody nie mam O to się nie troszcze Wszystkim urodziwym Wcale nie zazdroszczę (2x) Choć urody nie mam Ale czyste serce Przecież jakiś chłopak Za żonę mnie zechce Urodo,urodo Gdybym ja cię miała Miałabym jak chłopca Jakiego bym chciała (2x) Czerwone jagody Spadają do wody Powiadają ludzie Że nie mam urody Urodo,urodo Gdybym ja cię miała Miałabym jak chłopca Jakiego bym chciała (2x)

In Russian language, the word "урод" (urod) means ugly man, freak. In Polish language, the word "urodo" means beauty...
@floxxd5 ай бұрын
these two arent related words, despite sounding the same now. polish „uroda” comes from protoslavic *urodъ or *uroda - terms meaning a bountiful harvest (polish urodzaj and russian урожай are close to that term). over time the meaning was changed and „uroda” arrested in old polish meant beauty. russian урод comes from protoslavic *ǫrodъ. old east slavic lost the letter „ǫ” and it was displaced by „u” in most cases („у” in cyrillic script) and because of that the word *ǫrodъ became уродъ (in old east slavic it meant feebleminded, witless, foolish). such process didnt happen in polish and it kept nasal sounds, for example: dąb (дуб), ząb (зуб), ręka (рука), język (язык) or się ( the part -ся at the end of the verbs)
