IT WORKS!! THE FIRST TIME RIDING MY BACKYARD SKATEPARK BUILD!!

This is the first time we’ve had the chance to ride the backyard skatepark build at my house. The building process has been insane and taken hundreds of hours, thousands of screws and miles of timber, but finally the ply wood is going down which means we can test ride the ramps and backyard build!! Me and Jamie rode our dirt jump mountain bikes and Ben rode his brakeless BMX which made for a super sick test ride. What should we name this epic build and what should we create next!

I was thinking this, but he could also build a meter high fence with a gate door along the edge. It would look good and help the curtain, but be expensive with the price of wood.

Hi Matt, I have a roller diagram/ breakdown complete with circle radius's and positions you can have. My buddy and I wanted to replicate a roller from our local park. We gave the visible dimensions to my buddy who is writing his PhD in aerospace engineering and he worked out all the measurements for us. It's super helpful and can be used as a reference point to scale up and scale down, but get the same desired shape. Let me know if you want it.

Skatepark is looking sick lads 😍 Since you referred the curtain to being a sail, I deffo think you need to go for some sort of nautical/ship theme now 🤣 like the top level with the mini ramp could be called the 'poop deck' - cause everyone would surely shit themselves dropping in from there. Mat, you could build a chest/shoulder height stud wall and ply it between the steel's but leave a section out to get in and out, it would help stop the curtain blowing and also stop you smashing your hands on the steel beers 👍

I think the name for the whole place should be ‘The FarmYard’. I’d suggest putting something on those steel beams - cheap solution could be rugby post covers 😅 But would be class to get some Helfare custom covers.

Name: MJ's playpen. Pool noodles on the edge of the beams for a quick fix and just wedge in a few pieces of wood in the middle of the two beams and it will hold back the curtain from blowing in. that roller looks sketchy but fun. great job!

Very cool video! For the curtain, don't fix one end and not the other, if you do that it will be a parachute. Maybe fix one end as you described then attach a metal pole to the other end (just like a lorry does) that can then be locked close to the barn wall Sealing both ends. (And masively reducing noise.)

@themonkeyone the point is you want to be able to open the curtain. If you permanently fix both ends you obviously wouldn't be able to open it ever. So yea having it fixed on one end and semi-fixed in the other is probably ideal

Hi matt I think that you could use lacquer on the wood to keep it from peeling. I have used it before and can recommend using a thin first layer, than sand it down then use run over it again with a thicker layer, you can keep going if you need

You can mix a fine sand with lacquer to give it some grip too. Probably only really necessary on the section closest to the curtain

Matt, you should call the skatepark “The Barn Yard”. When you want to drill a hole in the coping tubes, it’s easier to drill a small pilot hole first, around 2mm, then open it out with a bigger drill bit. Good to see you centre punched it first though. 👌🏻 Awesome work, and keep it going. Videos are so on point. Always look forward to the next one. 💪💪💪

Do you need to put a rail along the curtain side at bar height so if you do go outside you will then hit the rail rather than the vertical I-beam. Although you also need to develop features outside when weather permits and have a fly out off the vert wall. Excellent work guys, love the channel!

Hi Matt, if you lifted the carribeaners to the 2nd hole up you would add more tension to the vertical plane of the curtain, if you then did a drop flashing (flat panel) over the front so there’s no air gap above and then pinned the opposite end the curtain will stay rather flat, I’d also recommend, if you were able to, adding the curtain truck rail on the bottom edge also, would just add a lot of stability inward and outward as that plane is fixed There’s no other way of stopping the curtain from bowing in and out with wind other than sewing on some vertical tensioning straps between the top and bottom sliders just like a curtain truck, Basically build a curtain truck but bigger 🤣

Hi Matt. You could also use a rubber pelmet that is used on the curtain sided trailer to close the gap at the top. You can get them in different depths. You could screw it directly to the wood. I might have a couple kicking around if you are interested 🤷🏼‍♂️

put cameras in the corners at and host a live jam once a month. just put a surf board behind where Ben was standing, against the exposed block wall, leave it open under that to use the top of the quarter still, have it flush to the top deck and the same slope as the bank, perhaps notch a surfboard from each side as to make a roll-in,where it would fil the gap between the bank and top deck,. For the roller, you could build up the sharp radius and make it more mellow, it all looks great!!

Mat what you could do for the curtain is drill a level hole though the steels running parallel with the curtain and add well tensioned table all the way down , do that every 1.5-2 meters gap from floor level to roof that may help to stop the curtain blowing in , also definitely pin one side of the curtain down and you could make a facia at the top overhanging the bracket for the curtain rail at the top to help prevent rain or wind getting in. Love the vids as alway 👍🏽

Got some ideas for the park! 1) With the new pirate sail installed the new park should have a pirate ship name, i.e. Jolly Roger. 2) Foam pads around the steel frame. a pad with an inch or inch and a half thickness wouldn't take up much room from the path and would save everyone from some serious injuries. 3) Cut slits in the curtain and get a light mesh curtain to go behind it. You may still need a tarp for the ramps close by, but it would stop the curtain from cutting off that entire lane. Love the videos! Can't wait to see the complete build!

The place looks SICK! You were right the first time, it is a spine. It's a copingless street spine with 2 different transitions. A spox has a much larger deck, and a volcano has 360 degrees of transition. Looks amazing, CHEERS!

You could mellow the roller out quite easily. Keep it the same height and just start it further back where the spine/box transition starts. You could even leave the ply shape there just add infills to the shape you need and brace it. Put the noggins back in once cut down and screw the same ply back. Job done 🤘🏻
