When it finally comes time for Xbox One modding, one big issue I could see is the fact that total game ownership isn't a thing there. Your DVD copy of Forza Horizon 3 is just a shortcut to download the full game from the store, albeit with seemingly a higher priority than digital downloads

most discs afaik have some data on them, as much of the base game as it can fit, then the rest is from M$ servers. This is a worry when it comes to the possibility of M$ shutting down these servers at some point too, however there is such a big community surrounding consoles that doing game archival would be on the top of the list along with the mod itself. I'm a strong believer that if you bought the game, you own the game and nobody should be able to stop you from acquiring the full game you purchased through any means. (copied from friends console, downloaded from an archive, etc..)

Forza Horizon 3 is actually fully downloadable from the disk alone. Heck, even Forza Horizon 4 is completely playable. Of course there won't be any of the DLC or updates that the games have gotten over time, but the base game for both is fully there on the disc and doesn't need to be connected to the internet to play. Many games are like this you just have to do a little research or apply common sense: if the base game is at or smaller than 50 gigabytes chances are good it's going to be fully there on the disc. On the flip side there are a lot of games that don't come fully on the disc. Mostly 1st party stuff from the 9th generation like Horizon 5, Starfield, Halo Infinite and Forza Motorsport (2023), EA and Ubisoft games like Madden, Call of Duty and Jedi Survivor plus one offs like Hogwarts Legacy and Avatar Frontiers of Pandora. Also, though this should be obvious, any discs that contain live service games like Back 4 Blood, Redfall, Fallout 76, Evolve, Anthem and Lawbreakers are obviously not going to help you out.

Xbox had more justification to shut down the 360 store since most 360 games that are backwards compatible are still purchaseable on the XB1/SX store. Sony backpedaled the PS3 store closure cause PS3 is currently the only way to natively play PS3 games since Sony don't have backwards compatibility. Once they get PS3 emulation working on modern Playstation hardware I guarantee they will close the PS3 store.

The Tony hawk exploit for the Xbox 360 is better because it doesn't require the patched shader or a burnt disc which would require a flash DVD drive. If and a big if, there is ever another hypervisor exploit found this may make it easier for people to exploit but would require American wasteland for the Xbox 360 which is not super easy to find.

I don't think anyone actively researched a bug in the 360 hypervisor ever since we got JTAG and RGH, if some active researches were done I think we could find something in a year or two... There's no such thing as flawless code... Afterall nobody thought RGH was possible excpet theoritically until GliGli pulled it off... Softmodding the 360 would be the holy grail, I think the day it happens on recent software revisions, we might see a big boom in the homebrew scene...

I tried Xenia with Skate 2, it was playable but would crash randomly and the sound was staticky at times. Even though RPCS3 exists, many games don't have the same vibe as they do on the 360. I don't think the Xbox 360 will die any time soon. I still have the 360 I got on my birthday, and play it to this day.

Completely pointless, the website was dying as I made payments (+ the website was broken so i couldnt authorise with my bank), even the xbox avatar app was dying, but i am now the proud owner of a minecraft cape, cat effect and t shirt

I'd say the RGH section is inaccurate. For RGH3 you need 2 wires, a Raspberry Pi Pico microcontroller and maybe some resistors. Way cheaper and less complicated than doing a full modchip. Only part of rgh3 that sucks is the exposing of the trace you need to do but I managed somehow

My proven strategy on slim boards is to use the sharp tip of my pocket knife and twist around the via until I see copper. Never once have I killed a board at this stage. I love Falcons and Jaspers due to the superior phat design, but I have an easier time modding Trinity slims overall, and they sell way faster than phat consoles do (my last batch that sold in less than 24 hours had the slim sell almost immediately).

I did it on my Corona (oddly enough in a 360 E case with a serial number that shouldn't have been a Corona). I just used a postfix adapter (quite cheap if you get a knockoff from China, which I did). Overall pretty easy, but apparently 4GB Corona boards don't always get along well with the Raspberry Pi Pico flash method. Mine was one of those, which made flashing the hardest part. I ended up using the SD card adapter trick to do the flash and that ended up working fine. Aside from the flash issues, the mod itself was quite straight forward. Hardest thing for most people would be the fine soldering. Good magnification helps alot. Oh and I also added a hard drive. What I did was buy a cheap knockoff Xbox 360 hard drive enclosure and a regular Western Digital laptop drive. There's software that will write the appropriate factory stuff to it so it works like an official drive. But, from what I've read, if you've done RGH, you don't need that - looks like you can use any 2.5" drive 2TB or less in size and you can just format it from one of the mod dashboards.

your brief point alluding to sonic unleashed running better in xenia than on 360 is absolutely correct. back in january of this year i decided to play it for the first time, but without any xbox better than a 360 and not wanting to suffer its legendarily bad framerate, i looked into xenia hearing it could run the game at high res and high framerate. it was a wonderful time! there's even a sonic unleashed mod manager to streamline some xenia settings as well as load the scant few mods out there (i personally used a mod that removed the werehog battle music and removed the medal collecting, but i've since seen mods that overhaul the werehog combat!). situations like this are why emulation is so special and important, even for real hardware enthusiasts like myself!

It's not uncommon for realistic performance to be an option. Dolphin has had a bunch of work put into its disk drive emulation to match console speeds, but it's mostly optional.

I just dug out my x360 and got my gf all excited to play some classics. Of which being the L4D series. Then I found out I can’t purchase the DLC in L4D2 because the marketplace had shut down just 3 weeks before we started playing 😭 I ended up picking up a used One X and was only able to download one DLC that I purchased a decade ago. The rest are unavailable on the marketplace. If backwards compatibility is a selling feature of new Xbox consoles then all DLC from compatible games should be available too. Bummer that’s not the case.

It's not too late to learn! I used a Pinecil soldering iron, pretty affordable and has swappable tips. I'd recommend a chisel tip from the fine tips set.

Haven't watched the video yet. But I really like to get some advice. I bought an Xbox 360 so that my friend can jailbreak it. But when I tested it I found out that the previous owners didn't factory reset it. And unfortunately the control that came with it is probably chewed by a dog and the previous owners decided to leave the batteries in so now there is corrosion in the controller. I'm just not sure what to do give it back and see if the store owner can help and fix it or just save my money and buy one that is already jailbreak. But I may have to see if the store owner can help.

It’s very dumb because Nintendo shut down the Wii shop and the DSi store because it costs money to keep them up but the thing is, the 360 store is literally the same store as the one and the series x/s store meaning they are actually running on the same server but the Wii and DSi don’t, and they are losing money because they aren’t earning money from games like Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition and more.

It's better luck hacking a 360 which is what I'm gonna do, a better PC costs 5k but a slim Xbox 360 is only 500. The Modchip for RGH2 is about 250. 750 bucks doesn't even buy much so it's a good deal, not even 1000 does anymore, so why bother
