Great video guys. The "why" is big. About to FIRE within the next month. Age 46, so a tad older, lol. All index funds across RRSP, TFSA and non registered, no real estate in my case. 3.33% WR including wife's part-time income that she has no desire to quit. Down the hi-way from you in Hamilton.

Matt, Thank you for the information. Looking forward to the check list in your future video. I think your accounting background really lets you articulate the clear path. Thank you both.

This is the conversation that touched my heart. As an new immigrant who came to Canada and went throught 3-4 rounds of reorganization, seeing those bloody office politics that fuelled by external consultants, I know RRSP and current retirement plan is not something we can rely on. I also had a better understanding of what is political correctness. Really looking forward to get the freedom to do the things that I like myself but not to be forced to do things as I have to.

It doesn't sound like either of you are actually retired. You just became entrepreneurs. Additionally, you are both young enough to start over any time you wanted. Zero risk in the current employment environment.

Im kind of at a crossroads. I REALLY hate my job, I'm at 4% for basic monthly expenses, insurance and taxes with a little bit of play money every month. My portfolio isn't at my original goal, but this job is really starting to get to me. I know, a great problem to have right? I am going to try to tough it out another year or two, but it is great knowing that I don't have to put up with their shit anymore if I don't want to.

100% - also don't forget, it's very rare that if you retire while you're still able bodied and of sound mind, that you won't earn some income at some point in the future, which only adds resiliency to your 4% rate

Yeah I know Matt, it's one of the things I keep telling myself ;) I was just kinda venting a little bit, where I live I am pretty much the only 'insane' person around with the balls to try something like this. Thanks for answering me, and thanks for making videos like this.

No offence, but it seems both of you made money during the second half of a once in a lifetime housing boom (just after GFC until now). Which is fine, you rolled the property casino dice as a speculator with mountains of leverage and won. In hind sight I wish I did too, in the same way that I wish I had bet large on a horse that just won a race. Basically, It's not a process that a person with a moderate risk appetite can replicate, especially now potentially reaching peak cycle in housing and financial markets (again). I do like your videos though, lots of energy, very positive content.

While I understand your perspective ,I disagree. Both of us are accounting and finance majors - myself being a CPA and we study and analyze the numbers very carefully. We INVESTED for Cashflow, not appreciation. Our wealth was built with cash flowing investment properties and strategic renovations. Canada’s housing did not correct like the US market so for the last 9 years of investing everyone’s told me - the market will crash and you’ll loose everything. Someone with average risk tolerance should expect average results no? I just showed Angie who’s acquired 3 cashflowing investments in 5 months. Or Adam who’s done 2 deals with no money and no employment income. Some see luck, I see hardwork.

Hi Eric - here is a video I did a while back that broke down a bunch of the different topics like 4% SWR and Trinity Study etc. kzbin.info/www/bejne/onTTgaZpqtydhrM
