Ready for a lot of compounding & polishing? This car really caused some problems with removing defects and required me to try and use more aggressive products like Sonax CutMax and 3D ACA 500. With the microfiber pads, I kept getting tick marks from the pad edge. To solve the tick marks I used a medium wool pad with Jescar Correction Compound to help finish down the Sonax CutMax & microfiber combo.
This car is going to need a lot of polisher time on the paint. It's so much work that this episode will be two parts.

This is coming from a Non-Corvette fan boy, you can call the design of that car many things, lazy ain't one of them. I would venture to say that car had way too much time spent on the design especially the Z06.

Love the channel...been following for a while now with excellent content. Try wearing polarised sunglasses looking directly at the reflection of the light. You will see every minute imperfection. I use my yellow lenses spotters sunglasses, works a treat specially on white. Keep doing what your doing, you have come along way :)

i say use a rotary with a woolpad with the ACA 500 on really hard clear and finish with fine foam pad and 3d one, DA wont cut it, it take 3 steps instead of a 2 step to get the same result.
@collinhopper7542
@collinhopper7542 4 жыл бұрын
This is one pro tip that has set my results ahead of the rest, on bright colored vehicles, try wearing sunglasses. Whether or not to wear polarized is something that you will have to find out for yourself;) Cutmax or 3D on Rotary with Lake Country Extra Cut Lambs Wool Pad should be the combo you are looking for, for curves a heavy foam cutting pad should do the trick. If not, 3M makes Trizac discs in 5000 grit and 8000 grit, if I remember correctly, hand sand the vehicle. For contours, oversized pads on a rotary work exceptionally well; but if that were my Corvette, I would have barely even touched my 5"+ pads, 3" and small all day long. After this Corvette, I'd imagine that you will not be doing another. haha Have some thoughts on how to obtain better results, maybe not more quickly, but certainly with less headache. For example, 1. at 22:28 where the 3" is being employed, did you think about running the actual contour with a 2" or 1" pad (a foam pad would be even better)? 2. Above that contour where it flattens in the door, did you think about running only that entire flat line horizontally down the door with the 3"? These questions are an attempt to illicit thought, in this specific instance, as noted above, our contour forms a valley, maybe polish both sides of the valley horizontally and then polish the valley with a 1". Of course in this stated situation, a different compounding fluid might have been deployed. However, super high grit Trizacs via hand followed by a rotary polish, and then DA finish would have probably been the quickest solution. As well, this particular curve would have also been a great time to deploy the rotary with a 2" pad on a 1" backing plate, or 3" pad on a two inch backing plate, either combo with a foam cutting pad. There are many ways to skin a cat, sorry if my ways are coming across as statements instead of questions, they are meant to excite discussion.

@@ObsessedGarage Not sure which of my ideas are darn good, but if we are speaking in context of the sunglasses, I would like to say that they are not some miracle solution. Every single light source may still need adjustment, sunglasses just bring our corneas from a state of burning to smoldering whilst we inspect light colored vehicles.

Not sure where Brian would be coming from but for the price of a plane ticket and hotel would be worth it in exchange for the knowledge and experience he would be able to share with Matt and team. Especially with the harder paints. I’m sure there would be a way to save time and keep it to a 2 step procedure instead of 3 and to also provide some tips on the best way to look at lighter color paints.

You may find this of interest/information from Brian at Apex who does lots of corvettes. Typically he cuts C7s with a LC Blue wool and 3D ACA 500 on a small rotary. kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z5vZpWCpe7FjitE On this Stingray he had to use a LC wool and 3D One due to limited clear remaining after a hack job

Seeing that vet are notoriously hard, I'm surprised you didn't go with a rotary and lake country hybrid wool blue pad, or buff and shine wool pad. You would achieved your cut and finish a lot faster with that combination and kept the heat down as well.

I would think M101 should be the better solution here despite the dusting. And you have trained quite a lot on those polish so you must be pretty good with them. But i respect the patience to do 2-3 steps on a car that you don't plan to keep. 100% would have sold the thing without polishing, if you can't tell the difference not a lot of people would be able to. Is it bad that i'm excited for the corvette to be sold? I can't wait to see another cool car be modified OG style. Old porsche, GT4, or why not a BMW

I've learned the same with my car. Both of my 2015s, the paint has been incredibly hard and brittle. M105 and the hardest pads I could find can take light scratches off. I actually couldn't tell a difference between going after it with m205 and not. But this was with foam pads only.

Also on harder paint, crank up that speed! Run it at 5 then increase arm speed, on a MF Cutting pad you’ll cut right through those swirls while saving time. Do a quick second pass, no product just a spritz of detail spray, slower speed, less pressure to remove haze 🤷🏻‍♂️
