Matt, I think updating from the dot1 to the dot2 would be a very small gain for the outlay. A little like going from iPhone X to iPhone Xs. A minimal improvement. In fact I prefer your 991.1 as it looks a little less fussy than the 991.2. I'm not huge fan of the NACA ducts and the protruding side vents etc. I would wait for a more substantial technology and engineering improvement in a few years.

Then change the tires on your GT3 RS to the new Cup 2 R and get stiffer springs, maybe coilovers according to the 991.2 GT3 RS specs, problem solved. Those unpainted plastic exterior body parts are still killing my soul. I'm like this "quick review" video series very much.

Matt, I was fortunate to enough to spend a week at the Nurburgring very recently. There are a lot of GT3 and GT3 RS cars there as you can imagine. In fact, 991 serious cars clearly dominate the track at this point. So, I did talk to a number of people about the difference between 991.1 and 991.2 GT3RSs. According to the people who are really familiar with the mechanics of these cars, especially the engines, there is no comparison. 991.2 engines are miles ahead . I would highly recommend that you talk to somebody from Manthey Racing, if you will be able to find somebody who’s actually going to give you a true story and will be willing to talk freely. I am very glad that I did not buy a 991.1 GT3RS. To me $50-60K would be definitely a very fair price. Let me know if you’ll be selling your allocation.

Does anyone know why US spec RS cars don't have the roll cage option? You can't get it even if you choose euro delivery, if Porsche knows it's coming stateside. Must be a DOT thing. I have a buddy with a GT2 RS who had to order the cage from Porsche and install it. Required much welding in a finished interior. They did a great job and covered the interior prior to the cage build.

@cutdepiefails65966 жыл бұрын
No it is not a different car. 991.1 rs only managed the record on a humid track, cup 2 N0, and a slower track. From the 991.1 rs the track got much faster, a couple of miles of fresh sticky tarmac, they smoothed out some parts that now you can take wot. Then Cup R. The biggest change was stiffer springs. Delta on both cars with cup 2 n2 or cup r, is 1 to 2 seconds AT MOST per 3 minutes of lap.
@cutdepiefails65966 жыл бұрын
@@Porsche1969 You all are forgetting that the track gets faster around 1 second every year, last year it got a major overhaul, much faster now. 918 today would lap in the 6:35-45 range.
@Porsche19696 жыл бұрын
@@cutdepiefails6596 Forget about this shit "it's getting faster around 1 second every year", because it is proven that it isn't true. Here in Germany, the guys from car magazine "sportauto" has done "researches" because of that claim. And they say, NO... that's no true! The track isn't getting faster each year. The tires have the biggest impact on track times, and that's all. Tires are the reason for getting faster each year. But the 991.2 GT3 RS is the much faster car compared to its predecessor. You can talk and talk and talk... the 991.1 isn't by far as quick.

Matt, how come you did not originally buy a used GT3 to develop a relationship with a Porsche dealership? I know typically people will have to pay about 10k--15k over msrp when being a 1st time buyer. but after that you would have a good chance of getting an allocation at MSRP. My buddy trades down then trades back up. He goes back and forth between a GT3 and GT3 RS. He trades his cars in right at msrp and is able to buy the latest GT3 or GT3 RS at MSRP with his own allocation build. He drives the latest and greatest models and does not lose much money at all according to him.....basically its like leasing a car.....but I guess it would not work for you or another person if they wanted to keep a GT car for awhile. Anyway just curious why you did not go that route since you love to drive Porsche GT cars

Now that I’ve watched it, two things jump out: 1. It’s amazing how much quicker you drive when you feel comfortable in the car. 2. Your comment about the .2 being more “refined” definitely hit home. I’ve driven a half dozen .2 991’s now and that’s definitely the overall impression I get. The suspension and kinematic are just smoother. Doesn’t mean softer or less performance oriented, actually I think it’s the opposite. I’m not sure how they did it, probably a lot of bushing tweaks and maybe some geometry? But it’s definitely the reason the .2 RS can run stiffer springs without beating you up so badly. I recently drove a Carrera T with SPASM and it’s a lot stiffer than my .1 C2S but less harsh.
