Nice job. The only thing I don't love about it mounted to the motor shaft is that if you are using spot lock, your views just keep changing. I think I'm going to opt for the pole. Thanks for the video!

Great point. Been looking at the mega live for my helix. Thats my biggest concern, it's dependent on trolling motor direction with a trolling motor mount. I want to point the transducer in the direction I want to look regardless of where the trolling motor is. I'll probably do a pole mount setup.

Great video-curious about the choke…manual says to hook it up to the battery charger. Did you have any issues running it in line with the power cord? Did you have interference? The more I’m researching..seems like it doesn’t do anything unless Hooke up on the charger to the battery the mega live is on. I just installed mine today and have it on the power wire as well. Didn’t want to cut my charger wire.

@jodytfishing2 жыл бұрын
Great video Question about the bus bar. Not sure if you made a video about that install, but if you did I couldn't find it. Do you have that main power wire running to your factory main power switch, or did you install another switch?
@BeardedBassBrawler2 жыл бұрын
Yes, I have two separate wiring harness running to the front. Both run from a bus bar that is run through my main shut off switch. The Mega Live is on it’s own harness with the choke on it. This is not the way Humminbird recommends but still works to isolate that power from the reset. Then the 360, the 2 9” graphs and hydro wave are on the other harness.

What battery did you hook it up to? I run 3. 1 cranking and 2 for trolling.

All electronics should go to the starting battery. Some people will use a battery just for electronics. In my case I have two batteries hooked together for my starting, they’re still 12 volts.

@BeardedBassBrawler Жыл бұрын
Don’t really need one. There are probes on the transducer so when it comes out of water it quits. The Lowrance and Garmin have “boxes” and that is where the real drain comes from

@@BeardedBassBrawler i am in heavy current, casting out the back of boat. Fixed is fine, although i could rig it to spin. I have not seen either unit. I dont know if the 360 shaft is heavy enough to mount live image on the pole, or if there would be interference with both on same pole.

Have heard people mention installing Mega Live with a power switch to turn off power. Any ideas on that?
@BeardedBassBrawler2 жыл бұрын
I’ve heard a lot of people talk about that mine does run through a main power switch which I turn off at the end of the day so I don’t drain anything off of my batteries. As far as running from spot to spot I am not worried about it and rely on the two electrical connectors on the side of the transducer.
@Askeyb20112 жыл бұрын
@@BeardedBassBrawler what about plug or other to disconnect electrical at end of day. We also moor our boat. I never leave Helix unit in boat. Once I install the Mega Live I will remove it. I’m using Fishing Specialties Mount on side of boat. We troll and anchor fish for Salmon and Steelhead. Plus Kokanee fishing. Kokanee later summer go deep but if near top would try ML. Also you can jig for Kokanee.
@BeardedBassBrawler2 жыл бұрын
You could add a plug like a trolling motor has I just want as few connections as possible to give me the cleanest power possible. It I was going to add a plug it would be an on/off switch like when killing power to a boat like a perko

@@BeardedBassBrawler ok, interesting. Last question - the silver wire with the power and ground what is that for? You tied it into the ground? Is that a "wake up" wire or what's the purpose of it? I plan on wiring to a switch as my system is completely independent from all other electrical components on the boat and has constant power. If the live stays on I need a way to shut it down and the switch seems to be the only option unless there is something with that silver wire? Thanks for your help unfortunately my live was missing the instructions in the box 😢

@@mattsfishing3286 it is a shield for grounding. Typically a wake up wire on a boat is yellow. I tied it into the ground with the black wire and red is power.

I thought the choke went onboard battery charger line charger
@BeardedBassBrawler2 жыл бұрын
So Humminbird does tell you to install in on the charger. My thought is that if I install it in line on the power cable it will do the same thing on the isolated power to the mega live and will help to slow the interference coming from the 360. I don't have any interference from the trolling motor either with this set up and I didn't have to mess with the charger. I will say I don't have as big a problem with the "ping rings" as I have seen in real time on others' set ups. I have asked Humminbird about this with no follow up yet.
