Video and audio upgrades are super crisp! Such a heavy resource on the topic-fantastic! Anyone who thinks the diminished scale has limited uses has clearly never seen this 😅

I’m halfway through this video and I’m already excited to get back home and practice this understanding! This is a very interesting perspective on dim scales, and offers lots of freedom to create. I’ve always known that there are lots of chords buried in dim scales but that knowledge didn’t have any structure in my head! This video shocked me into knowing that most of those chords are exactly the same chord family, like dominant or minor 7, built on every degree of the related dim chord of the scale, minor thirds apart!! That’s amazing! Thank you very much Matt!

OMG, you have just blown my mind! How have I not known all this? Why wasn't I taught this in school? Thank you so much for sharing this. This is so clear and concise. I can't wait to get into the woodshed to work through it! I feel so fortunate that I just happened to stumble upon your channel. Bravo and cheers!

Thor! Thanks for the comment! I'm glad you like those dim scale concepts! I feel the same way and have really enjoyed working on the this scale and other scales this way. A lot of ideas I got from transcribing guitar players who seem to know a lot about how to break scales down without needing to use all the notes (Kurt Rosenwinkel, Peter Bernstein)....

@@MattOttoJazz Wow, that's amazing! Funny you should say that, too, because I'm a guitarist and have always derived the most inspiration and ideas from horn players. Go figure! 😊

Wow, awesome video! I've been thinking about this concept a lot recently, but I've never seen it presented so clearly before. Incidentally, I was once given a cassette tape recording (!) of you playing tenor on a cruise ship (sometime in the 90s I think), and listened to it daily until it was eventually chewed up by my tape player some years later. I transcribed most of it, and it had a massive influence on my playing and music concept. I'm delighted to find you creating these incredible resources on youtube! Kia ora from New Zealand
