@MrBashem it's sort of a weird comparison for you to mention your own road car and how you drive in order to back up your belief about how F1 drivers operate their cars. They honestly do have a blind area over the tires thanks to the winglets, and while they don't look over them directly, they pick up cues from their peripheral vision to judge where to steer the car. Those lines would appear in their peripheral vision more easily if the winglets weren't there.

Lap 14 he asked to have a shot at Verstappen because he had better pace than Charles but was denied. Leclerc was 1 second per lap slower than Max at this point. Then the VSC came out and Ferrari decided to do a double-stack pitstop. Sainz was right on the tail of Leclerc but had to slow down and make a 2 second gap for the pit stop. Both cars had slow pit stops, Leclerc was 4.4 seconds, Sainz was 4.5 seconds. When Carlos rejoined the race, he was now in P6 with Perez, Hamilton, and Norris now between him and Leclerc. So he went from asking the team to change positions to having his race destroyed. Then he went on to be the ultimate team player later in the race with his battle with perez that held him up long enough to keep him from challenging Charles for P2. There are two issues. The kerbs themselves, which give a lot of grip, which is why we are in this mess in the first place as you said. The other issue is the poor side-low angle visibility in these cars, so it is easy to go past the track limits by a small margin and not notice it. I am sure if drivers actually on purpose went past the track limits, they would breach them by a larger margin. But yes, if it was not worth it to on these kerbs, drivers would not do it. Honestly I think they should just somehow make the kerbs worse and have much less grip or something.. Removing the kerbs in the last 2 corners and white lines could work and instead add gravel as a natural track limit, kinda like Willow Springs Big Willow does, but then the issue is, if it is safe for the motorbikes racing here, perhaps not.

So.. While the tracklimits thing clearly is a meme, I kinda think they deserve it. as long as there are people performing 'well' and staying within limits there's no excuse. But good god... Ocon, what did you do... And then ofcourse Sainz: just let the man through, if he does well, fine. otherwise, just tell him to give it back. It cant hurt to atleast try, if infact he was being held back to that extent. Instead leaving him behind and crushing his confidence and trust in the team... poor management.

Hamilton embarrassed himself today... when it gets to the point when Toto, of all people, is basically telling him to shut up, stop whining and just drive, you know he's gone too far. I don't think the stewards were being too strict, it's the rules: you keep the car between the white lines, simple as that. They can do it while it's raining, they should be able to do it when it's dry. These people are drivers at the pinnacle of motorsport, they can thread a car going 200mph through a gap that's barely wide enough between two other cars, but they can't keep it on a piece of tarmac 4 times wider than their car?

Carlos should’ve been let through. All I have to say is if the roles were reversed they would’ve sent Leclerc through straight away. Feel bad for Carlos was quicker most of the weekend
@amarjabbal1909 Жыл бұрын
Actually, they didn't let Leclerc through immediately at Silverstone in 2022. Eventually, yes, but not immediately. Coming on to this race, one of Carlos' 5 second penalty was a result of him going over the track limits multiple times while keeping within Charles' DRS in that first stint. So, he wasn't really faster than Charles as it seemed. All this while Charles kept it within the limits more than Carlos
@crow__1769 Жыл бұрын
They should have definitely swapped them to see if carlos could pull away and if not then just swap them back around, not that hard of a strat for them to do doesnt cost them anything and no crying on radio
@amarjabbal1909 Жыл бұрын
@@crow__1769 They are competitive. Fred Vasseur mentioned in his interview that if they swapped them around, Charles would have said the same thing as Carlos. So, it wouldn't have changed anything. He also confirmed that their plan always was to build a gap from P4 and P5. Infighting wouldn't have helped with the plan. So, they stuck to holding positions. Plus, all of us know that neither of them were catching Max in that Redbull regardless of who was in front. So, it would have been a useless excercise. Plus, as i said before, Carlos went off track several times in order to keep pace with Charles and be within his DRS while Charles kept it clean. On top of that, he only got close when they were in the DRS zones. Charles reopened that gap again once the DRS was closed on Carlos' car. Ferrari did a good enough strategy today. The double stack pitstop at the start wasn't good, but strategy was mostly on point. Had Carlos backed off a bit in the first stint and managed his own race and track limits, he would have been on the podium as well. Its easy for me to say this in hindsight. These decisions are always tough for the team
@tomasshaw724 Жыл бұрын
Yeah we saw in the race when Sainz was not in drs and were running in free air that they had practically the exact same pace.
@tomasshaw724 Жыл бұрын
I would say that Sainz was marginally faster in the first stint while the middle stint they were quite similar while Leclerc was a bit faster in the final stint. Of course it is very tough to call because they drove very different races with Sainz battling more while Leclerc could focus solely on tyre life. I think Sainz was clearly better on Saturday and Leclerc was further ahead on the Friday while the race was so close.
@IsaacandRowanplayz Жыл бұрын
I’m glad they finally decided to do something about the track limits in the race, this was maybe a bit too extreme but they need to stay consistent now.- the stewards did state in the report they recommended track changes
@LucasMueller18 Жыл бұрын
It's not Extreme, the drivers are. The drivers are saying they can't control the car that small. But Monaco is way more control and they do just fine. The drivers clearly just want to take turns how they do without having the constant pressure of track limits. The FIA followed the rules they made and I respect this. Every driver that got a penalty deserved it. Especially since Leclerc, Alonso, Verstappen and Russel got no penalties and they didn't complain once they were simply the best :)

@elliotcowell3139 Жыл бұрын
@@flakemonsterrr That is honestly the most ridiculous take I've ever seen. If they went off track like that at monaco the punishment is a dnf and yet this year there was only stroll who dnf'd and it was mechanical so they're obviously capable of keeping it within the lines. If there's no risk of dnf for going off the track then there has to be strict rules or you get dumb situations like in bahrain 2021 where some drivers weren't even bothering with certain corners. It's completely unfair to those who do it properly. What I will say is the penalties were applied too late and should be sorted before the chequered flag but the penalties themselves are completely justified.
@samuelsiltala119 Жыл бұрын
@@elliotcowell3139 Personally I think they should do something about the root cause for the track limit breaches, going on the kerbs is too effective. If drivers broke the track limits on purpose, then they would do so by a bigger margin. Also don`t forget the winglets give drivers poor visibility of the white lines below drivers seating position, whereas the walls are at their level or above, which is why they are easy to spot. So you cannot compare walls to white lines. Gravel in last 2 turns could be an option, if it wasn`t for Motogp racing here..
@elliotcowell3139 Жыл бұрын
@@samuelsiltala119 yep thats the thing, F1 isn't the only series. Adding gravel is not only not great for other racing series it's also putting the cost of enforcing the rules on to the circuit owner when this is F1's problem. (I don't think most people realise just how expensive race tracks are) If going on the kerbs is too effective then a harsh penalty seems to me to be the cheapest way to make it instantly much less effective to go wide. I guarantee you come silverstone the drivers will suddenly become extremely respectful of the white lines. It's just like that time they left the red lights on for ages and a bunch of drivers jumped the start, they didn't do it again after that. It's dumb to presume that after circuits do all the work to make their tracks safe enough for F1 that their hard work should be reversed simply because some drivers can't help but break the rules. It's like suggesting that football make the goals wider because some strikers keep missing. ps: gravel isn't that much of an issue for motogp safety as making motorbike racing safe is a whole other problem, the real problem with gravel is that you go wide and get massive damage on the underside of your car, now you may say "so what?? F1 teams are rich as hell" but the thing is these tracks (especially permanent ones like Ostereichring) host amateur races, track days, stuff for tourists etc. Is it really worth asking them to increase the risk of damaging their personal vehicles (I don't need to tell you how expensive owning a track car can be right?) just because Ocon cant keep it between the white lines?

Whoever is the rules lawyer for Aston Martin is an absolute animal, and deserves a legendary pay raise. Edit: I'm starting to believe that the strategists on the Ferrari pit wall are actually insane. No Matt. Ferrari are not closing up the gap. Max Verstappen was able to charge his batteries and weave on lap 70 to warm up the tires for the attempt (and inevitable success) at fastest lap on lap 71. Charles was impotent to do any damn thing about it from only 3 seconds behind.

Race disqualification would be a great deterrent. If these are supposedly the 20 best drivers in the world they should be able to keep it within the lines. They know where the lines are they know how to drive the car and keep it in the lines. If they don't want to add gravel on that corner they should consider disqualifying drivers from the race for repeated track limit offenses. Start like usual with a five-second penalty, then a 10-second penalty, and if it continues go to a 30 second penalty and if it still continues kick them out of the race. They will learn super quick to stay in the track limits.
