I’m installing these High - Tech hose bibs on my house with two inches of exterior insulation and mounting blocks, so my James Hardy siding will connect to the hose bib gracefully. In this video I’ll show you a couple tricks I use to ensure the connections are all are water proof and airtight. Plus if I need to service or change this out in a couple decades I’ll be able to do that without digging into my siding.

I installed these in my own house remodel. I found them to be noisy when disconnecting hoses due to water hammer caused by the aggressive spring in these Aquor fixtures. There are water-hammer arrestors with uponor fittings which are super easy to install. If you want to go to the 11th degree, you might consider adding one just before each hose bib.

Clint might not be great on camera but he is learning something valuable. I work with all trade vendor in facilities and they are there to get in and out as fast as possible to make money. The fine details goes against the grain of that. It takes a special tech to take pride in their work. Sometimes you need to be by there side to support this approach. I first saw these Aquor bibs on an episode of This Old House a few years back. Wanted to retrofit the 50-year-old brass bibs on my house. It was interesting how my plumber viewed the idea. He was hugely unimpressed with the idea of replacing anything that worked, and he scoffed at the price. Good points. Still, for a house in Massachusetts, the feature of being automatically freeze proof by simply popping off the Aquor adaptor is mighty attractive. I don't always get around to "properly" draining those fittings before winter. Maybe viewers here are the people who DO drain those standard fittings, but what about everyone else? I'm trying to make that house as easy as possible for when some retired guy (me) starts really getting old. These Aquors still look good to me.

The house I owned in Overland Park, Ks. Had 4 hose bibs round the house. One was a 12" freeze proof. The other 3 Had a quarter turn stainless steel valve in the water line a couple feet in from the outer wall. As it was an unfinished basement it was a simple act to shut them off then go outside and open the bibcock to let it drain. That winterized it.

In the North Country....I have only seen the metal hose bibs, and usually on commercial construction. Any type of plastic....extreme frigid cold....doesn't go well together due to cracking and shattering. Now an 8"-10"-12" would be good but we have another problem. I prefer ball valve shut off on the interior wall so I can "DRAIN" the spigot during non-use and or winter storage prep.I ALSO leave the spigot OPEN ensuring any type water freeze expansion has somewhere to go. I DO LIKE your system with the winter drainage attachment.

Man, wish I knew about that quick flash boot a few years ago. I ended up actually using a roof pipe boot to seal better around a sump pump discharge pipe, but that quick flash is like exactly what I was looking for. On the other hand, those insert hose bibs look like those inserts are a good way to lose an important piece of plastic. (Or, up north here, get surprised and have plastic shatter - the metal ones don't even last that long up here between rebuilds, even with 12-14 inch models.)

I have a pair of Aquor taps, and am thrilled with them. I am in a heavily modified pre-fab with skirting. The skirting isn't high enough to have a 'traditional' tap, and it would be a massive trip / collision hazard even if I did. So what I did was run them vertically in the deck, with the pex plumbing underneath in conduit pipe. Installed shut-off with drain valves on each one for *really* easy winterizing via the skirting access panels, and the only thing visible is a ~3/8" SSteel bump in the corner of the deck & porch. Yes, an extremely niche application, but they are the *perfect* product for my needs.

I'm not a plumber but I own a cordless expander and use Uponor when I install pex. Several of the plumbers in my area (CZ 6) switched from Uponor to Rehau. Curious, would have a drop ear fitting worked better than the street elbow? Then you could take the hose bid off from the outside and reinstall. No access panel needed.

Definitely not enough pex now to service in the future.

... if you don't want the pipe to freeze, make sure it is on the inside of the house insulation... but cold water flowing could cause condensation. would have liked to see some flashing, and you are right about needing to trim those screws... if it wasnt for covid, i would keep a box of every length of torx deck screw with me.

In his case, it is inside the exterior foam, and inside the ZIP system sheathing (with foam insulation built-in). Plus he lives in Austin Tx.

@@mark9118 I think I was intending to say that it seemed silly to put pipe insulation on the pex in the exterior wall rather than pipe insulate and then make the rest of the insulation more difficult. I feel like a jerk, but I also watch so many of his videos, and hopefully this drives engagement...

Since Moneyball, I've heard the term misused. Even by sportscasters. Matt's heard it on a job, and doesn't know. Matt, stop! ☺

It's a popular colloquialism in Texas to borrow the term for added color to a description - also from the Urban Dictionary: "money shot; This term is often used to describe a pinnacle moment in an event or the best course of action. It doesn't have to be used in a sexual context."

Is there not a gasket of any kind right behind the face plate? Seems like that would be the place to seal. Obviously water wouldn't get very far, but for a "normal" install on a "normal" build I would think it would be needed? Or do you caulk around the whole thing?

Would it also make sense to add a shut off valve on the inside since you're also adding an access panel? I might just be over thinking it.
