Reminds me of one time our church's junior pastor's wife had this thing where she had been praying for a deep encounter with God, she fasted, prayed and all that yet things were still the usual. Until one Friday service we had where the theme was something related to anointing, (can't remember well )... Anyways, in this service she got that encounter she had been looking for only that it came in the form of her being drunk in ceaseless tongues for over 5 hours. Our senior pastor had to do his own prayer to thank God for her encounter and ask him to tone it down a bit so that she could go home😂 Our pastor always tells us that we should be careful what we ask, cause many times God is happy to see us wanting to participate and he'll expressly show how happy he is by giving surplus of what we asked for. Another example, which is an even more funny one is the time we did a church 5 days prayer retreat. One of our members had been praying for one God to open his eyes to see the things of the spirit... God did and it didn't take 2 days for bro to start praying that God should close it back🤣😭

The fact that you didn’t make the deity into something we could comprehend was an excellent touch. Usually with cosmic horror it’s a Cthulu looking creature or vaguely humanoid. Something we can look at and make sense of. but this was like a Rorschach blotch or a galaxy in space or even the inside of the human iris. You couldn’t really tell what was the deity or what was part of her eye and that made it so terrifying. The fact that there was no roar or noise from the deity was a nice touch too.

The concepts of elder god and such is introduced by H.P Lovecraft in his works, for his works. While they are often used elsewhere, they are in no way universally applicable. As such I do not think they can really be used to classify anything outside of that universe. I think trying to would against the meaning of the work. But if you were to use that to classify it, I agree.

That is the belief when you're shallow in philosophy of humanity and nature. Believe it or not, a spiritual side of humans and universe exists. When you come in touch with it, you realize God Almighty. Then you find answers that seemed foolish before. You realize your insignificance. You realize that there are things that you can not, and should not see and imagine. For example, God. God is Omnipotent and Omniscient. To try to realize His Being is height of foolery. He is unfathomable. That is why He is God, and we; Creation. There is no way for us to realize Him, unless He Himself wishes.@@Theobfool

Everything, Everything from the isolation in the woods, to the shallow depth of the back ground showing the isolation in her mind. To the tight camera shots letting us know just how intense this is going to be. To the cold color grading making us feel the chill in the film. To the embodiment of a disrespected God taking vengeful action to those who deny him in time of crisis to the protagonist not being able to free herself from her own eyes. To the delicious B-rolls this film was 6 minutes of captivity I didn't want to get away from.

Wicked job, loved the way you introduced the cosmic entity, usually its an eye or something p, but this captures what a cosmic being might be like just to look at it. Loving the cosmic horror videos that are coming out, the creatures from lovecrafts work are really interesting creations of the imagination. Gives an idea of what our minds can grasp and understand. Lots of people say its hard to do a cosmic being, but if you start with cosmic images and then work in the parts of living creatures you can make some interesting ideas. Like this one starting as stars and working into a soul eating hole of sorts, like a mouth without teeth. I am a lover of these types of creatures, because of how they interact with he universes they exist in. Really loving the shorts coming out with those creatures, especially becuse I have been trying to write and give explanations for why they would be as they are. The way they treat humanity and how they interact with the universe, I can totally understand why most show monstrous creatures following or representing them, like a creature that howls and wears a mask seen in another short, I can easily explain why the monstrous physiology and why human's heads burst when they look upon some, I could use real biology and technology to explain how they could be real. Wicked stuff

You are capable of knowing these things as in order for God to truly be God He must be perfect in all His ways, without the capacity for lying because to lie is to promise something that one either cannot deliver or has no intention of actually delivering. Neither of these things can be true of God since there is no thing that He is not capable of doing and for Him to promise something that He never actually had the intention of doing would mean that there is some level of bitterness in Him which would make Him incomplete within Himself, which is impossible because a being which is perfect in all of His ways cannot be lacking something internally which would cause Him to delight in the suffering of one of His created beings.

Yes I want this too ... someone give matt all the funding he needs so he can make a feature length version of his trailers "The Gate" and "The Anomoly" .... let's get seriously into the weeds of cosmic dread and other dimensional terror and body horror .... matts leading the charge 👍🏻💪🏻

@@thecosmiclovecraftian Hello fellow Lovecraftian fan. I so enjoyed the trailer for "The gate" somehow my mind starting to go "we shouldn´t be here" and that is so freaking scary. 100% Agree with you, Matt is leading the charge. We need honest and scary cosmic horrors. A question, No need to answer if you don´t want to, but... what do you feel about "nihilistic" horrors? Not really sure, by the way, if it is a true term in horror, but the feeling of it "that everything is going to (bliiip) and so on" it gets me in a way. Sorry for the long text and late reply. Stay safe.

@@pekinoboI didn't know what nihilistic horror meant so I looked it up and found this definition "Nihilism is the view that there are no values; that, in the grand scheme of things nothing we do is important, and everything we hold dear will be swallowed by a gaping, cold void" If this is correct, then yes this kind of horror really gets me too, it's terrifying, and I can spend way too much time sometimes thinking about how everything and everyone we love will be gone some day in the next 80 ish years, ..... I can't even explain why I love cosmic horror and that feeling of dread so much ... and look for films that depict that feeling of utter despair and Foreboding.... possibly because I know its a safe dread, and it's not in the real world... and then my mind starts questioning whether it could all be real and lovecraft was mentally ill because he knew all this stuff he wrote of was based on knowledge he had ...... it's a hell of a can of worms for your mind to open

as a fervent admirer of cosmic and lovecraftian horror, i very much appreciated the focused, well-acted simplicity of this piece. however, i was a bit disappointed by how the ending was delivered (i.e., the visual transformation). the exquisite promise of this genre is that there are realities too vast and incomprehensible to be held within our feeble human minds, no matter how wise and powerful we imagine ourselves to be. this concept alone is enough to instil profound existential terror; forcible exposure to their awful, naked forms are sure to crush the soul and drive one mad. to deliver this dreadful unto a newly-grieving widow, her heart laid bare as she pleads with her until-now-unchallenged source of spiritual strength, is traumatic and terrifying in itself, without need of crude visual reinforcement. in her hour of greatest need, her faith has been confirmed outright as she is touched by the hand of god.... only to discover that god is in truth utterly incomprehensible, bitterly cold... and terrifyingly malevolent. perhaps a bit of abject terror and bleeding-from-the-ears would have sufficed. regardless, good job.

Cheers! Yeah I could have held back a little on the physical effects a little. I'm a big fan of body horror also so wanted to infuse a little of that in there too. Quite often cosmic horror and body horror seem to go hand in hand. Originally The God was going to have even more of a presence in this world, but it started diluting the idea a bit so I stripped that back. But I did like the idea of seeing something so terrifying/powerful that it has a drastic physical effect. But you're right, it could have worked either way.

It was fine af .... totally fire 🔥❤️. I love it ❤️. I remember reading something similar to this in a Lovecraft's story. I forgot the name of the story, but in that too, there was a human who could see into the darkness and the beings who lived in that darkness, but one day a creature or a god stared right back at him and from that point on his life changed. Thank you for bringing such a nice story into live action. ❤️🔥

Another outstanding piece from Mr. Sears! The moment she opened her eyes was the same moment I had to turn on my lights! You consistently cast the best actors and somehow manage to tell stories that are not only deeply relatable but also profoundly true. The horror in your films feels so authentic because it comes from a place we've all experienced. Each scene, though brief, is powerful and resonates with the connection between life and fear. Simply incredible! Bravo!
