Matt, Im 43 and have been fishing tournaments since I was 8 years old. Im stuck in the 80s and never wanted to try swimbaits and swimjigs. Even though I have been very successful tournament fishing, I can almost always try to pick up something I can use from your videos and usually learn alot more than a little on videos about swimjigs or swimbaits. With all the new electronjcs technology that I dont have, I need all the extra help I can get to stay competitive. Great video

I am a riverbank fisherman here in Fredericton New Brunswick. I have used a white swim jigs with a white trailer without any luck. I tried different retrieve. We have two rivers here in Fredericton. The Saint John River is the main river and tidal water. The Nashwaak river flows into the Saint John River. Nashwaak has good current when the Saint John has a strong currents when the tide out

That "Alabama Shake" deal can be applied to Smallies.... minus the swim jig. White tube with either 1/16 or 1/8 oz. tube head... the 1/16 allows the tube to breach the water surface easier.... a stronger wind condition calls for the 1/8 oz. Usually works in conjunction with a shallow jerkbait bite. Once the school goes stale on the jerkbait.... sling that white/silver tube at them doing the Alabama shake randomly breaching the waters surface..... you can usually get a couple more bites before moving on to the next pod. As always thanks for the vids and your time.

Have been thoroughly enjoying the retrieve series you have been doing lately. Went fishing this last weekend and went with the goal of trying different baits and techniques to get more experience on them instead of just falling back on the ones you know will always work. Started last weekend with a crank bait, and a new rod and reel setup I just got for crank baits, and imparted a couple of the different retrieve techniques you talked about for cranks as in the past I thought you just straight retrieved crank baits. I was astounded how well those retrieve techniques you shared worked, I had 3 fish in the boat in the first half hour of getting in the water with these techniques. So thank you again for sharing these simple but effective techniques, especially for us beginners that have just started getting back into fishing in my case. Have definitely helped me be a better and more successful angler in just the last 2 years.

Thanks Matt. He series on retrieves is helpful. I’ve found, via Livescope, that using the Alabama shake whiling letting the swimming fall down the weed line edge is a killer slow and finesse retrieve. I’ve watched bass follow the bait and not hit it on a regular Alabama shake retrieve and throw back in and combine the shake with a controlled fall and the bass will destroy it.

I’ve got to say the single most important part of a swimjig is the trailer. The trailer determines the depth and cover you fish in. Using a craw or chunk style bait keeps it higher In the water column as well as working great in grass and wood. A swimbait is best for deeper fishing and thick grass. A creature can give the bait bulk and keep it high in the water column as well as work great in wood and brush. Personally I think a swimjig can use almost any plastic as a trailer and be successful
@MattStefanFishing Жыл бұрын
Trailer is important. I’ve done a lot of videos on trailers
@seizedcarcass8440 Жыл бұрын
@@MattStefanFishing yeah I haven’t tried this yet but a powerbait boss grub has a lot of versatility just depending on if the trailer is horizontal or vertical. I have had alot of success with a 3-4 inch grub though!
