Many of you in the U.S. are already familiar with Neko rig. The word "NEKO" comes from the word "NEKO SOGI", which means takes everything, so Neko rig means catches all the fish. Now here's the important part. The word "NEKO" also means "Cat" in Japanese. And "Inu" means Dog in Japanese. The inventor of the "Inu rig" does not specify, but the name is probably a joke, using dog(Inu) for cat(neko). Many Japanese fishermen tell him that he should turn it into a business, but he says that he doesn't dare to patent it because he wants everyone to enjoy catching lots of fish.

hey Matt, looks like a very cool rig to try! I agree with you about putting a small Neko weight on the tail since that would actually allow more curl action. Great video thanks! I watched the same Japanese video 2 weeks ago!... Instead of pushing the tubing through at a 90 degree angle, he pushed it through at a 60 degree angle... I believe it's the exact same Japanese guy but probably an updated video after he experimented a bit... He illustrates and explains why it is important to push the tubing through at a 60 degree angle rather than a 90 degree angle!... Believe me, that way the worm has way more action since the line glides through the worm with less resistance!... Thanks for the great video, you won yourself a new subscriber! 👍👍👍

Put a small hook on the back weedless style instead of the split-ring and your hook up ratio will go up a good deal. Over 40% considering several fish will just grab the tail and then spit it out. You'll catch smaller fish as well but you won't lose as many big fish either though. You can put a nail weight in the end as well and it will help with the depth but changes the action a little but still works good.

I saw this yesterday on a Japanese fishing channel. The rigging looks a little complex. In the one I saw they rigged a Zoom Swamp Crawler. It looks like an inch worm or a mosquito larvae under water. The problem for me would be that I’d rig the thing and either make a bad cast and lose it, throw it into brush and lose it, catch a big ‘un and get broken off…and lose it. Good vid Matt. Go JDM only!

Thanks for breaking down the original rig. I throw a lot of weightless worms and this is a great variation of the original, which I think has a Tokyo-style sliding weight on the line right above the hook. The action seems more exaggerated with the weight, but both look promising for working different depths. I’ll have to give this a try.

My issue with this rig is the free floating hook. I feel like on a good hook set you'll just tear the tubing out of the worm before you transfer enough energy to drive that hook. I could be wrong but that's what I feel like would happen.

That looks like a solid YES. I know many times when I was a kid and fished with nightcrawlers we would often throw the remaining crawlers in the water when we were done. Countless times bass and sunfish came out and grabbed them. This looks enough like a night crawler struggling in the water that I can'tr imagine it not working!.

I was wondering the same thing. based on some of the comments I think people assume I'm claiming this as my contraption, but as I clearly stated I did not come up with this but rather sharing it because I think it is really unique.

Yes, I ran into this as well last week and had since made a dozen of them and went to the pier and caught all types of fish and people were wondering what I was using...making a long story short, I sold every single one I had for 10 bucks each....lol

I just saw this on Hirosans TV KZbin channel 2 days ago. Tried to make my first one today. I got confused on the holes. It didn't come out that great. I need more practice. But this really looks like it has a lot of potential!! Thank you for the video. I think you helped me with the holes and the plastic tubing. I used a thin straw but need something thinner

Looks cool, really like the slow fall rate. Like you said adding a neko weight would be good as well. I'd leave the last piece of tubing in the worm by the split ring, my thought is it'll add durability to the worm for repetitive casting. We've all had our line damage the plastic with other rigging types while casting. Thanks for the vid.

Yeah if you put two tubes in might as well put three in. I’d hate to have the tail tip because no tubing

Interesting rig, thanks for sharing! Reminds me a little bit of the D.O.A. Sna-Koil worms. Have you seen those? They have a nice snaky swimming action on retrieve but when you let them fall to the bottom they naturally squirm and coil back up on their own.

My girlfriend made a lure just like this years ago. She would sit there and play with all my used soft plastics. She balled up worms and put line through them and said make it like a puppet on a string LOL. I never used it. Well, there it is!

I put together this rig after watching the Japanese video. Couple cons: - the split ring will eventually pull through the plastic. So maybe better to use tubing? - easier to gut hook fish. If you are fishing at a catch and release place, this probably ain’t the best lure. - it will only last a few fish at most. The way is skin hooked it’ll rip the plastic on the worm pretty easily.

I stumbled across that video the other day too an was like whut. Me an my buddy used to do this 35 years ago when we was kids. We didnt name it anything its just how we rigged em. One thing we did different was instead of using tubing they make metal sleeves for fishing. Line slides better through em an gives u a little weight. It does work
