I concur with Josh. I'm from Georgia and my brother & I used to take our crappie jigs and strip off the feathers and hackle and break off our Creame scoundrel worms. And catch spots on Lake Lanier until we ran out of worms. I still use it today. Just longer shafted hooks. We were doing it before Ned put his name on it

Thanks Matt. This is one of my favorite techniques here in Florida, owing to the fact that I live near several ponds with relatively clean bottoms. I primarily use a 1/16 head, and yes, I get a large percentage of my strikes on the fall.

I suggested this technique in a comment on your recent grub video... and now I'm regretting it a bit. The jigworm has been one of my bread and butter tactics for decades. Like you I learned it from In-Fisherman: Matt Straw and Gord Pyzer. As an Ontarian, your channel is fast becoming one of my favourites... it's nice to hear someone talking about northern perspective: natural lakes, weedlines, and tactics that aren't southern impoundment specific. Keep up the good work. 🤘🤙👍

I've tried spit shooting small swimbaits down into 40 to 60 ft catching few perch last winter.i should try this as well to get a few more in the boat. When it's cold and slow I fish 4 rods . Cast em out cover water .and reel em in 1 at a time. Slow falling baits take minutes to get down to wintering fish.so I fancast and reel in 1 rod at a time and recast. 1 falling as 1 reeling up. I've caught more fish this way when it's cold by keeping busy casting and reeling.gotta grab a rod quick some times.soaking a drop shot, or jig bumping in current draws strikes.

This is something I utilize but a tad different. I prefer a 1/16 shank weighted ewg hook. I actually file the diameter of the lead a little bit and use a trick worm (or fluke). Have to be careful putting on a trick worm so I pinch off the top eighth inch and then glue the worm. Super deadly on the fall. No error for loss of concentration as most of my hits come on the initial cast. Great vid, and I think I’ll give this a go to compare.

I like the size 1/0 Berkley Fusion swim jighead with a black and red ribbon tail worm. I caught a good one one this setup back in October off the end of a river boat ramp dock. Hooked it at the back of the mouth, in the roof. It agressivly inhaled it after missing it on the blowup when it first hit the water. All I did was swim it back and forth with my rod two times by the branch it had been under before it gobbled it up. The conditions were on a clear warm Fall day and in muddy, low "tide" (above a dam) water, by a foot or so.

Hmm- I've always seen ppl use a ball head jig, never tried it with the mushroom style head. I also generally use a straight tailed worm or a spade tail, something without a lot of action. The Z-man bang stickz were my go-to this last season for this technique. It's just a senko with four little, short tenacles on one end, elaztech so it stands up on bottom. I'll have to give it a try with a mushroom head and a curly tail, sounds interesting.

nice video...I think one of the problems people run into is a narrow mindset of weedline fishing, where, they want something heavy that will crash down right through them, straight to the bottom....now, this will work, WHEN THEY ARE ACTIVELY FEEDING ON THE BOTTOM....but many times they are not, yet are still in the weeds. If one thinks of the weedline as an extended edge from top of the water column to the bottom, there are innumerable places where they can be along that edge, and a slower presentation just might put it in front of them, instead of rushing right by them.
@MattStefanFishing3 жыл бұрын

One video idea for you is to show your gear and techniques for this style. Me? I use trout gear so it might not be interesting to the average basser. I might do it tho.

Lol. I meant to say I use strictly trout gear for this. I do have bass gear like crazy.

Matt, Isn’t this essentially a shaky head with a swimming worm vice a trick worm!
@MattStefanFishing3 жыл бұрын
not really. they both can be used similarly but there is a definite technique to the jig worm vs the shaky head

Matt, great video!!! I live in Cincinnati area... Kinda mid west and I've never seen this before. Love to Shakey head fish. This is like a medium between Shakey and Ned rig. I think this would be killer with plastic reaper style baits, just letting them glide with current.
