I'm so glad that they have managed to finish it. Saw it first on grand design and this build really pushed this family to breaking point. I pray it sells for the most that they can get out of it. They all deserve a fresh start. Preferably away from the ocean 🌊

It’s like they’ve designed a house that would be perfect for somewhere like California/Florida ect, but put it in the UK, where it’s freezing cold 90% of the time. It’s amazing to look at from the outside and has stunning views, but it doesn’t seem like a very practical place to live with the lack of privacy, no garden, threat of erosion and the need for having blinds everywhere, so you can sleep in past 7am in the summer.

This was the second saddest of all the Grand Design episodes for us. We were used to the formula of the show where the owners of the featured property go through all manner of travails and then in the reveal at the end all is great. And we expected the same for the reveal of the revisit but the reveal was like a kick in the gut. The building wasn't finished, and looked like it might never be, he was on his way to a divorce, he was financially devastated and he couldn't do anything with the smaller house he had build next to this property until he completed the main property and that looked like it probably wasn't going to happen. Very happy for him that he has managed to complete it. I hope it will go well for him.

Which episode was the saddest?

@@shauleen Hi, thanks for asking. There are a few contenders for sad episodes that were sad in similar ways to this one. But for me the episode that I thought of as the second saddest was different in its path to sadness than the Devon episode. That was the ECO Boat episode. The subject of this episode seemed completely unaware of his his lack of skill and knowledge for the project he had in mind. Everybody that he interfaced with told him that what he had in mind was a bad idea and it certainly looked to me like it was a bad idea. As the episode progressed it looked even more like it was going to end in disaster and then it did end in disaster. We like Grand Designs quite a bit and we have watched the episodes we have DVDs for three times or so. However we haven't watched this episode again. It is just too sad for us. As an aside I notice that in 2021 somebody was going to take a shot at restoring the ECO boat. Although I question the use of the word restore for something that never got beyond being a pile of junk I hope it turns out well for them.

Great views of the seascape. The property could perfectly be described as minimalist and a little cold and bleak, particularly so I would imagine during those cold and dark Winter evenings with the wind battering the property in its exposed location. What a monstrosity! Ugly and soulless. After 10 years still not finished. It's been derelict for years, must be riddled with issues. It probably needs millions more, to make it safer, prettier and more liveable. The tonnes of work needed inside and outside got recently covered up temporarily mostly, to hide it from the cameras. A few pieces of furniture we see in the video must be probably rented by the agent. I remember watching the episode on GD. Quite shocking really. The owner was very stubborn, wouldn't listen to anybody and to his family and he got devastated in the end. Very sad.

Will add years to the structural face and probably reduce insurance. That's what i'd do anyways. Both of you are doing great work on this channnel and very natural and welcoming! Presumably the owner needs to bathe and answer calls of nature. Are they sloping out in a bucket and washing in the pool or the sea? (No bathrooms shown in the tour). The general floor space and living areas have been staged interestingly . Seems the omissions suggest unfinished work..

Yeah I imagine over a long time erosion is still going to be a concern there. I’m not sure what constitutes bedrock in that location but I don’t think it would be equal to bedrock in other countries. from the aerial view the drone shot you can see what looks like the air conditioning coils up by the walls kind of far away from the house I’m not sure how efficient that would be. But it also makes me feel like the bridge for the car park is unnecessary and hideous from this angle.
