It’s like they’ve designed a house that would be perfect for somewhere like California/Florida ect, but put it in the UK, where it’s freezing cold 90% of the time. It’s amazing to look at from the outside and has stunning views, but it doesn’t seem like a very practical place to live with the lack of privacy, no garden, threat of erosion and the need for having blinds everywhere, so you can sleep in past 7am in the summer.

I'm so glad that they have managed to finish it. Saw it first on grand design and this build really pushed this family to breaking point. I pray it sells for the most that they can get out of it. They all deserve a fresh start. Preferably away from the ocean 🌊

I think the man that was building the home had to sell it to a developer to complete the home in the end. The original builder never owned OR lived in the home. Such a shame to have your dreams taken away from you, just for dreaming to live in a fantasy home.

This was the second saddest of all the Grand Design episodes for us. We were used to the formula of the show where the owners of the featured property go through all manner of travails and then in the reveal at the end all is great. And we expected the same for the reveal of the revisit but the reveal was like a kick in the gut. The building wasn't finished, and looked like it might never be, he was on his way to a divorce, he was financially devastated and he couldn't do anything with the smaller house he had build next to this property until he completed the main property and that looked like it probably wasn't going to happen. Very happy for him that he has managed to complete it. I hope it will go well for him.

@@shauleen Hi, thanks for asking. There are a few contenders for sad episodes that were sad in similar ways to this one. But for me the episode that I thought of as the second saddest was different in its path to sadness than the Devon episode. That was the ECO Boat episode. The subject of this episode seemed completely unaware of his his lack of skill and knowledge for the project he had in mind. Everybody that he interfaced with told him that what he had in mind was a bad idea and it certainly looked to me like it was a bad idea. As the episode progressed it looked even more like it was going to end in disaster and then it did end in disaster. We like Grand Designs quite a bit and we have watched the episodes we have DVDs for three times or so. However we haven't watched this episode again. It is just too sad for us. As an aside I notice that in 2021 somebody was going to take a shot at restoring the ECO boat. Although I question the use of the word restore for something that never got beyond being a pile of junk I hope it turns out well for them.

To answer the main question from the comments - the main house is primed ready for the new owners to fit out to their own specification. There is a full fit out package available but it's felt at this level most buyers would bring in their own interiors team. So everything from the flooring, lighting, kitchens and bathrooms to the in house technology bundle is yet to be installed. Further details available on request. 😁

Great views of the seascape. The property could perfectly be described as minimalist and a little cold and bleak, particularly so I would imagine during those cold and dark Winter evenings with the wind battering the property in its exposed location. Weigh this property up against what £10m will buy you elsewhere and I'm afraid my money would go elsewhere.

What a monstrosity! Ugly and soulless. After 10 years still not finished. It's been derelict for years, must be riddled with issues. It probably needs millions more, to make it safer, prettier and more liveable. The tonnes of work needed inside and outside got recently covered up temporarily mostly, to hide it from the cameras. A few pieces of furniture we see in the video must be probably rented by the agent. I remember watching the episode on GD. Quite shocking really. The owner was very stubborn, wouldn't listen to anybody and to his family and he got devastated in the end. Very sad.

Great property guys! I thiink that the peeps who buy this should consider having the eroding cliff-face chemically sealed with an epoxy-type chemical, steel netted and then faced with a durable, rebarred conrete face (sprayed-on or wooden-formed) that's pinned-in with 6 metre metal rods. Will add years to the structural face and probably reduce insurance. That's what i'd do anyways. Both of you are doing great work on this channnel and very natural and welcoming! You are consumate professionals who'll go a very long (and most deserved) way with a bright furure ahead of you! Well done!!

I just watched a programme about it. The build split the couple up; and pushed him into 7.5m of debt. I think it was. I see comments above saying it still hadn't sold, recently, but was now down to £5m, suggesting he'd still have enormous debt even if he managed to sell it. The fact that it was finished some years ago and *still* hasn't sold, regardless of price, says everything, I think.

Is the owner preparing meals on a camping stove / storing perishables in a cool box outside? (No kitchen?). What of bathroom facilities? Presumably the owner needs to bathe and answer calls of nature. Are they sloping out in a bucket and washing in the pool or the sea? (No bathrooms shown in the tour). The general floor space and living areas have been staged interestingly . Seems the omissions suggest unfinished work..

Yeah I imagine over a long time erosion is still going to be a concern there. I’m not sure what constitutes bedrock in that location but I don’t think it would be equal to bedrock in other countries. from the aerial view the drone shot you can see what looks like the air conditioning coils up by the walls kind of far away from the house I’m not sure how efficient that would be. But it also makes me feel like the bridge for the car park is unnecessary and hideous from this angle.

Not a particularly useful garden space either, just lots of terraces.

Some say this house is jinxed There was a unlucky brick installed and only when it has been removed, you can truly enjoy the house and the surroundings

Good view, and though fancy it could be pretty bleak and miserable in winter cold, windy and rainy weather. However, the house is awful. A really bad design, with really poor use of the space and very poorly equipped, i.e. no ensuites or walk-in wardrobes. All of the rooms are tiny and poorly shaped. The outdoor space is also poor, with absolutely pathetic balconies, which are again an example of the very poor and complete lack of effective usage of the space. Simply wouldn't buy it. You can get much bigger, better designed and better equipped for so much cheaper.

The saddest thing about the house - not that it took so long to build or that it cost so much - but that after all that, it’s for sale

This house is awesome and they built the eye house next to it but it ruined their marriage. Not worth it.

@@conner.9262 Who knows, I saw the query and easily found the information you were after, I’m helpful like that. I also don’t get all worked up if someone doesn’t reply to a comment on a video 😂. So now you have the info are you going to contact the agents to buy it?
