I think there's no denying that they choose an awkward moment for that suit-up scene. In the preview, that animation happened in Fox's office in Wayne tower. In the game, they cut and pasted the sequence into a scene that kinda killed the story momentum. Not because Batman didn't need to get new equipment for a new challenge, but because the slow, methodical suit-up that worked gorgeously for the game's first sneak peek didn't work for a moment that required much more urgency. But is a deal-breaker? Hardly. It's a nit-pick.

@@pakman0049The Spider-Man games were inspired by the previous Spider-Man games, there’s honestly like nothing similar between the combat systems other than square to attack and triangle + circle to perform a finisher, the stealth segments are more of a copy of the Amazing Spider-Man games, as for traversal, all you have to do in Spider-Man is to hit triangle to glide, you can even do barrel rolls with the web wings while in Arkham, all you have to do is just grapnel boost, dive, and glide a lot to get to places, I do think that the Arkham games are more harder though

Thank you for bringing up that the Batmobile was never useable in the previous games, since after playing Asylum and City (now Origins) I couldn’t wait to use that darn thing in Knight I also did a lot of roaming and Riddler stuff as Batman with all the Mark 2/3/4 grapple boost stuff being introduced, so I never had a complaint about “too much batmobile”

Me personally I feel like the only real valid “Batmobile used too much” is that we didn’t get true boss fights for deathstroke and that first Arkham knight encounter. And no final fight for firefly. Outside that, I personally don’t think it was overused. DLC included I think the like 16 percent is a very reasonable amount of usage for such an integral thing. Just wish we had gotten those boss fights though

I think it's fair to say the Batmobile was overused. Unlike the stealth and brawl combat mechanics, tank combat doesn''t have nearly enough depth to warrant that much repeated use. And I found it very hard to learn the racing controls, but that may be because I was playing on PC, which wasn't the right way to go. I could never quite master drifting, as the hand-break is the left-shift, which you have to hold with your pinky. Regardless, using the Batmobile on my first playthrough was pure frustration. So I understand why someone might rage-quit. The game has a much steeper learning curve than the first two entries.

I liked his racetracks and batmobile puzzles, seeing as we'd already done pure Batman Riddler Rooms in City and Origins, but if people were tired of them I could understand it

The Batman suit up scene is not meant to be sexual in any way, but if he wants to go down that road, I would argue it’s actually less sexual than the other games. Arkham knight’s Batsuit is much more armored than the other games so you can’t see Batman’s giant muscles through the suit like you can in the other games. He’s literally putting on thicker clothing than the last game that now hides more of his physique, that’s like the complete opposite of sexual.

Arkham Knight is actually my favourite game out of the 'main three' (sorry, Origins!), for multiple reasons. The biggest one of which is the introduction of the Grapple Launcher Boost, and the Batmobile and its ejector seat, all three of which massively speed up traversal across this large map. One thing I tend to hate about open-world games is travelling across such large maps, and in a series where skip travelling/teleporting/fast travelling isn't available, being able to soar rapidly across the map is VITAL - and Arkham City absolutely lacked this. Travelling across City felt so slow, tedious, and cumbersome without the Grapple Launcher Boost or the Batmobile, which alone makes me disinclined to replay it; meanwhile, it takes mere minutes to go across all three of Knight's islands, which is *much* better. Secondly, there's so many goon variants in Knight - shock sticks, guys with shields, Detective Mode jammers and trackers, guys with suits that make them essentially invisible to Detective Mode, the large thugs that need to be stunned and beaten down, medics that can revive a couple goons and coat others with electricity (so if you punch them, you get shocked), and more. This makes both combat and stealth takedowns much more interesting, compared to City. Thirdly, fewer Riddle trophies and stuff. Enough said about this. Fourthly, I don't like Catwoman, so I hated how I was forced to periodically play as her in City; here in Knight, she's relegated solely to Ridder's sidequest, and is a nonentity otherwise. Ideally she wouldn't have returned whatsoever, but this is good enough. Similarly, Barbara is using her Oracle role, so she stays out of combat and provides support neither Robin nor Nightwing could provide - a fantastic use of her character; Batgirl is only usable in a DLC thing, which...why?...but otherwise not in the main game, thankfully. Fifthly, I don't actually mind the Batmobile gameplay; in my opinion, it's definitely not overused at all, having just the right amount of presence to provide a nice gameplay switch from Batman himself every now and then. Sure, the Cloudburst (and Deathstroke) fights are tedious as hell, but against regular drones and even the standard larger tanks? It's perfectly fine, at least for me.

I like to think that there are two kinds of criticism. 1) this could be better than it is, and 2) this should be different. The first respects what the work appears to be trying to accomplish, and how it fails to achieve its goals. The second is more subjective, deciding what the work should be doing instead of what it did. "The Dark Knight Rises didn't quite get its thematic points across," vs "The Dark Knight Rises should have made different points." But I think there's actually a third kind, which comes down to, "Me me me!" "The Dark Knight Rises should have been about the Riddler, because I love the Riddler." Underthemayo's criticism seems to fall into theis third category. Criticism isn't exactly an art, but it explores our relationship with it, and so it requires a certain amount of self-reflection. When there's zero self-reflection, only the knee-jerk reaction, that "hot-take" is inevitably treated as an objective observation. Some of Underthemayo's reactions weren't without cause. But legitimate or not, his total disinterest in exploring why he had these reactions led to a comically self-indulgent rant, dismissing the entire game. It's like dismissing the whole of The Dark Knight, every plot point, performance, costume, and effect because you didn't like Christian Bale's voice. To be completely candid, I had a lot of the same reactions to Arkham Knight that Underthemayo did, at least on first playthrough. The suiting up scene is undoubtedly placed in an awkward moment, which kills the pacing of the game's first chapter. Compare the new suit's introduction to the dramatic introduction of the Batmobile, which utilizes its "Batman porn" moment to magnificent effect. I think the game made a couple of decisions like this. It presents an insurmountable barrier to an urgent problem, stopping progress. It then introduces a new game function as the challenge's solution. But wait, before you overcome this urgent problem, take 20 minutes to run a tutorial. Learning about the Batmobile's tank function did this, leaving Batman and Ivy pinned behind a door with tanks pointed out them while you learn the basics of tank combat via stimulation. It's not a huge issue, but it somewhat breaks the sense of urgency. The story is sacrificed in service of the game's game-ness. When a little reshuffling of events would have avoided that conflict. In the same way, the leisurely suit-up completely contradicts the urgency of having to rescue hostages. Had it taken place in Wayne Tower, as it did when the cut-scene was presented in the original trailer for the game, it would have been perfect. But as a long, distracting pause while hostages stand inches from death, it undeniably creates a conflict of emotion for the player. It seems obvious that the suit-up was cut and pasted. Its mood didn't quite fit the moment. Arkham knight is full of issues like this. The Batmobile's tank battles feel like an undercooked system that's overused, but that's not a deal-breaker. The Jason plotline was half-baked and sloppy, but again, not a deal-breaker. The Harley sequence broke the pacing of the game as well, feeling like a annoying digression as the story was picking up momentum. It should have come up earlier in the game. Deal breaker? Not even close. It was still a great sequence. As you say, Underthemayo's reaction is comically inappropriate to the problem. Do these foibles detract from the game experience? Yeah, of course they do. But do they ruin the game? Only if you ignore everything that's good about it. And there's just so much. I don't know about this dude, but I signed up to Arkham Knight for 50 hours of Batman porn. I didn't get that, of course. I got 500 hours. And I loved... most of it. Because I didn't let the parts that annoyed me spoil the parts that's frankly magnificent. To me, Underthemayo's rant just feels like an immature demand for attention, like a small child watching adults doing something truly impressive, and innocently going through the motions, hoping for the same applause. KZbin is full of young people watching excellent, thoughtful review videos, and thinking, "I can do that. I have opinions too!" They have no idea what it means to analyze things critically, anymore than they know how to make a movie by watching one. But that's the nature of youth. I remember one time I decided to give a game I hated way too many chances. I finished it and spent like a year thinking about it, wondering why people liked it, despite all the flaws. Then I played it again when a DLC came out. And I loved it. That game is called Crosscode, and I don't regret finishing it while mostly hating it the first time. Personally I don’t have much problem with what the game does, it’s what it doesn’t do that always bugged me, no good bosses like Poison Ivy from Asylum, like Freeze fron City or Deathstroke from Origins, hell even Blackgate has a couple boss highlights such as Deadshot and Catwoman, I realize Arkham Knight has a few boss “scenarios” as I’ll call them, but none ever truly felt like a boss battle I guess….i would’ve liked a couple good one-on-one duels with Jason Todd, Azrael, and someone who could’ve gave a nice 1-1 predator battle similar to Mr. Freeze…..there’s no Batcave, no other playable characters besides Batman have more than a few minutes of playtime in the main story, no martial artist enemy types from Origins (I for one miss those lol)…..I can go on, but ultimately what the game DOES do is great, it just missed a lot of opportunities as well…..still a great game, thankfully the overused Batmobile DOES feel great to drive and battle with

Arkham Knight is a fantastic game, and my favourite Arkham game (though all four Arkham games have things that they do better than the other Arkham games). Yes, it has too many tank battles, not enough boss battles, both the Hush and the Asrael storylines go nowhere, and I *hate* the game's story's end, but the game does so much and so much of what it does it does extremely well, and overall I believe it's the most playable of all the Arkham games.

I admit while Arkham Knight has its flaws and there have been others who offered different ideas for presenting them like there was someone who said you could keep the Deathstroke Tank fight, in Campaign For Disarmament, by including other Deathstroke fights in Own The Roads and Occupy Gotham, like when all checkpoints are down you could have a combat fight with Slade, then when all the watchtowers are down, another encounter with Slade but this time a stealth segment, maybe similar to the Two-Face and Harley Quinn stealth fights in Arkham City, then you can keep the Tank fight after all bombs are disarmed. Despite the aspects that take away from an experience I still love Arkham Knight and see it as my personal favorite of the game, mostly because the combat and stealth are at the peak of their abilities in my view, and the story made me glued to my seat, granted while Clownpuncher 139 offered a different story of Batman knowing the Arkham Knight is Jason Todd early on with Batman asking why are you doing this instead of who are you, and his idea sounded like a story I'd like to see, but overall I'm still satisfied with this game.

Honestly just a random discussion of your points brought up against arkham knight at the start haha -personally i enjoy the batmobile sections and they are honestly not as frequent as you may think since they make up like less than half of the average runtime i believe Edit: this was discussed in the video lol but i still like the batmobile anyway -big agree with rush, great potential in city but wasted in a 1 story beat side mission that was lackluster -also agree, the whole thing with jason felt like it was more focussing on the shock of jason being alive rather than any sort of emotional weight behind the idea that jason may actually be the knight -i feel sorta 50/50 on this, again i honestly kinda enjoy the cobra tank sections since they feel like predator sections for the batmobile and the fight i still personally find to be pretty fine, but in comparison to what deathstroke has been before it was a huge disappointment like at least let us do hand to hand combat with the guy again :( Time to watch the rest of the video lol

As someone who has never played the other two Arkham games and only played Knight, I actually enjoyed the Batmobile. I can understand the sentiment of it being overused and sure it was annoying to use sometimes, but overall I liked it and found the tank combat a good break from simply playing as Batman. Sometimes it’s fun to just blast things. Combined with stealth situations, and other times just jumping into a group of thugs to kick the crap out of them, as well as race tracks, Arkham Knight had a lot of variety, and it all fit together well enough that it wasn’t absurd in a story/gameplay wise. Complaining that the tanks lack situational awareness, while simultaneously complaining about the Batmobile is absurd. Why would want missions with the Batmobile to be HARDER?

I agree heavily on Jason’s missed potential. I would go so far to say he was heavily misused when compared to the Red Hood Animated adaptation. Say what you will about Under The Red Hood, but that movie not only had Red Hood be far more likable even as a murderous anti-hero, but as a Critique on the no-kill rule. Then you got Arkham Knight, which is a a far more unhinged and far less interesting interpretation of Jason Todd. In the Red Hood movie, there was questions whether or not Jason turned crazy from his resurrection. But in Arkham Knight, it’s very clear how much Joker fucked him up. It’s just that we don’t get much characterization from Arkham Knight until the part where they reveal Jason. And then comes the heel turn where Jason realizes his wrongs, and suddenly the conflict Jason had over wanting to get revenge on Bruce is gone. It’s just sloppy, and makes me wonder if there was anything more to this version of Jason Todd originally or if the writers really did intend to make him this one-note.

Well, it is his opinion but I agree that he failed to explain his opinion properly. But I can agree on some of the stuff that he said, explaining it my way. For example, I hate using Batmobile in Arkham Knight because.. well, it becomes boring of using it every time and I just want pure action, stealth or hand to hand combat, but instead of that this game reuses Batmobile too much and it makes me want to give myself a break from this game. And the Riddler challenges and collectables. As if we didn't had enough of him in Asylum, City and Origins. It was very annoying, especially those upside down driving sections of the Riddler challenges. On PC they are frustrating because, if you happens to get just a little lag spike, like one frame lag spike, then Batmobile gonna fell down and you gonna lose the challenge. So yeah, I feel like changing Riddler with somebody else would be better. Maybe with Zsaz that they cut out or Prometheus, who was only mentioned in Arkham Asylum but was never in any of the 4 games. And that is my biggest problems with Arkham Knight but other than that, I like the game. Especially the fighting system. It feels so powerful and right that you almost feel yourself as Batman.

Arkham Knight is a great game - the best in the series? Maybe not. But it's a great experience. I remember preordering this game (back when preordering wasn't so stupid) and have since played and beaten this game multiple times. It's a fun experience and I'm tired of all the hate. I'd even argue that Knight is easily the most accessible in the series for newer players - the fighting mechanics, in my opinion, had been perfected. Love this game, always have. There's not a bad game in the Arkham series (Asylum, City, Origins, and Knight are all masterpieces).
