I'll probably never get the hang of half the things this plane can do, but it's feels good knowing it's all in there. An amazing example of the simulator's art, keep those clips coming thanks.

I don't know why I'm here. Every time I watch its back to counting down the days until I get my hands on the F18, but every time another video pops up I just cant stay away. I'm starting to learn how an addict feels.
@deeplearning25526 жыл бұрын
Though I think DCS doesn't need any new planes right now, what really it needs to do first is to solve its old problems: physics, radar and RWR simulation. We can fly a variety of aircrafts but their radar/RWR simulation still runs that old code from the 90s...
@olivialambert41246 жыл бұрын
I've been watching the F-14 like a hawk. I'm probably an odd one preferring the 18 to the 14 but since we can buy both this is going to be an incredible year. Plus with the amount of outstanding flight hardware coming out this summer I've never been so excited. I wasn't even this excited for the original A-10C, and that was a time when the only other realistic simulations were Falcon 4 and Black Shark in the FC2 engine so that has to be saying something. I feel like any more to come this year and I'm going to burst.
@deeplearning25526 жыл бұрын
Olivia Lambert Falcon 4 is nowhere near realistic.. DCS too though. They really need to work on physics/rwr/radar processing instead of just spamming modules for cash..
@olivialambert41244 жыл бұрын
@J Thorsson Never fear, I've since got the F-18 module and can perform waypoint navigation myself.
@olivialambert41244 жыл бұрын
@J Thorsson You'll get there. Its an amazing aircraft and if I only had one it would probably be my pick. It can do every single role, and I much prefer the layout and design to the F-16 personally, though I do prefer Air Force mentality to Navy in a lot of ways. Still, you've jumped into one of the hardest and most complex aircraft in the game so its unsurprising its difficult. A lot of us have had over a decade of practice on other aircraft, and that very much carries over to the Hornet too. My advice would be firstly to fly the aircraft. You only get so far from book work. You can understand everything but the moment you get in the aircraft its as if you'd never read a thing again. That, of course, counts for youtube videos too. Then secondly learn piece by piece. Whilst it can do every single role in the game and can carry an extremely high number of weapons, that also means you'd have to learn every single weapon. If you learn one at a time it will make things a ton easier, preferably starting from the easiest weapons. Air to Air is crucial but complex, it might be a good start if you want to jump in at the deep end. Then learn dumb bombs. Then another big step up from the targetting pod, but after that laser guided bombs should be easy. A smaller step but incredibly useful, Maverick missiles. Laser guided is very easy once you can bomb. Then perhaps JDAMS, that leads on easily to JSOWs, SEAD is useful to learn but its also fairly complex, and by that point you should have almost everything down. In between you'll be wondering about various aspects such as radios and datalink and none of it is essential but you'll be learning it over time. Once you've learnt a few things in the up front controller you learn the mentality of it, and then everything with it becomes easier (TACAN, data entry, datalink, autopilot etc). And again Air to Air is a very, very expansive subject with the Hornet so beyond learning to use the map and the radar just chip away at it slowly. The SA page is unbelievably potent and one of the key reasons I favour the F-18 but with that it can be a little tricky to use or get stuck on in inopportune times. As for videos vs books, thats for you to learn really. I'd assume videos might be easier if you don't know your way around, but they also leave out a ton of information due to the book's length so it really depends how you work best. Neither is too important, you're probably going to take before the quarantine is up before you can come back to the book and actually absorb the minor details videos lack - until you understand the systems it will just leave you before you get what its talking about. Anyway, good luck.

Wags, I have a question for you regarding TOT and GRND SPEED. If you don't input the desidered ground speed for the last leg of the selected waypoint, the caret cue beneath the Tspeed shows you the early late cue in regards to that TOT. What happens when you select a GROUND SPEED? does the caret cue tells you the early/late information regarding the speed you have selected?
@MattWagner6 жыл бұрын
The speed entry is required to provide an accurate early/late cue. Without a speed entry, a valid cue cannot be given.
@Pautasio906 жыл бұрын
Matt Wagner let’s say you don’t insert a speed value, doesn’t the early/late cue give you information with the current speed the aircraft is flying?

Great vid Matt and thanks. This just whet my appetite the more. Just wondering if it is possible to mod the LDDI displays to display in mono-chrome white like in the FA-18E version. Green all through against black background has poor contrast.
@Nightwolf3236 жыл бұрын
Ernest Aghimien unfortunately the F-18C doesn’t have color displays for the DDIs. They’re green and black, and that’s all you get. The MPCD in the middle at the bottom is color, though. The F-18C+ and Super hornets have color displays instead of DDIs which lets them put things in deferent color schemes.
@ernestwinslow73166 жыл бұрын
Thanks Nightwolf for the info. I want to believe by the time the FA-18C is release, the DDIs would have improved. I see the A-10C warthog has green and black displays and color and contrast and so good. I am hoping FA-18C will get some touches in this area. Gamma is been poor.

How does the Offset mode work? Do you have to input only range and heading from a waypoint? If so, we can move in such servers with objectives on the ground only having a waypoint on bullseye and knowing O/S of the target from it, without putting in the coordinates right? :)

I love the tutorials, but as a beginner i find it difficult to follow along as much as I'd like to because there isn't much explanation as to why you input the things you do.. for instance, why did you input the 140000 into UFC for the TOT? Why in that format? In relation to zulu how? What does it mean when you input that number? This is the same for the previous videos, like why 130 degrees approach to the airfield? No idea why you put that in or what it meant. All in all, very great game and very grateful for what I'm assuming was a massive amount of hours to make all of these videos. Thanks!

Great vid Wags, but it would be nice to actually see what you are clicking on. You should have zoomed in,and shown the pertinent instrumentation, and not the whole instrument panel. You know what you're doing,but it is your student who must see exactly what you're doing. Otherwise the video isn't needed, just an ineffective voice recording as in this vid. Always think of your students as empty vessels that you must fill in the most efficient method available. I being one of them.

326 indicated airspeed at 24480 ft as indicated by the HUD is a TAS of approx 462 knots already. Of course it can go faster. But don't be deceived by indicated airspeed. Also he uses 500 knots groundspeed for the target time calculations which is a realistic value for approaching an AO.
