@@MattWhitingsEurope Please, Ceausescu was not a dictator, he is our hero. WE will demonstrate the truth. He was the winner, not Bush senior, no Mitterrand. He and his wife were assassinated, and my country was sold for nothing to the companies most of them from west countries.

Small correction: Timișoara is not a small village but the 5th largest city in Romania. Bonus trivia: Timișoara was the first European city to be lit by electric street lamps in 1884.

Thanks for the information, Timisoara is definitely on my list of places to visit. Didn’t realise it was such a big city! Cool fact too!! Thanks again. 👍

Fascinating. I began reading the book I Must Betray You by Ruta Sepetys and I realized I had no background knowledge of communist Romania. So this was a great video to watch. Thank you!

This is a great explanation! I’m Romanian American and it’s so fun hearing about the history of my country ❤️ I do want to note however that Ceaușescu was pronounced che oo sheh scoo, the accent on the ş makes a “sh” sound. Otherwise, loved the video!

Absolutely fascinating and I did know a little but not shot dead I had no idea . An amazing country that has clearly suffered but certainly well on the mend , so glad I decided on Bucharest as the history is unbelievable. Thanks Matt outstanding

I'm here in Bucharest now. There is no graffiti on The Memorial of Rebirth, so I'm glad it has been cleaned off, because I found the place to be very humbling. The names of all those killed/murdered are engraved into the walls in front of the monument. I walked away afterwards, going through what I thought was an old parking lot, not knowing that's where Ceausescu made his last speech!

Cool that you’re in Bucharest, hope you’re having a fab time! That place is really interesting, I enjoyed learning about the history and it sounds like you’re experiencing the same feeling. Glad it’s been cleaned up and they’ve removed the graffiti, looked terrible when I visited. Enjoy your time there!

Transfagarasan was meant to be used in case of a Soviet invasion which looked imminent at the time. The dams provide hydroelectric power which is clean and renewable energy. The Cenavoda NPP reactors provide cheap and relatively clean energy as we have a nuclear waste recycling system. The healthcare was free and they built lots of schools. The only useless building was the House of Peoples which wasn't entirely useless because it helped the economy and created a lot of jobs as all the materials used for it were locally sourced. Ceausescu didn't build anything, the Romanians built all that and we are proud of it.

Sounds like my home country now, the only difference is that everyone is zombified there and there's no way they will revolt. I left because I only have one human life span and didn't want to spend it on fighting the regime. Oh my god! He was shot! He must have got people very very angry. Angry mobs are scary.

Thanks for the comment, Olga. Fascinating as always, let's hope your home country can turn things around. And as far as Nicolae Ceaușescu goes, you'd have a hard job making up such a story!
