I'm not sure how Matty made things worse. The police accused him of using them in a personal vendetta against Cain, making Matty look like the bad guy. They weren't going to drop the investigation into Joe's disappearance either way. I do think Matty should have talked to Moira and Cain before going to withdraw his statement, but I don't think he did anything particularly damaging.

Trying to figure out where Moira gets off with the attitude when she is letting her other son take the rap for a murder SHE committed. It’s irrelevant that Adam volunteered. Moira is still acting all holier than thou when she has no room to talk.

Moira has always been a high horse hypocrite. She's one of those characters I try really hard to like (because she has some awesome moments), but she makes it near impossible.
