I started on one of these Marlins. I put a shorter stem on it, 120mm air fork and good tires... its a fully capable trail bike now and the fastest bike I've ridden. I own a full squish now, but still choose my Marlin 50% of the time.

@@matthewbuttery7320 I put a Bolany air fork on it, but I'm switching to a Rockshox Recon. The Bolany started getting "clanky" after about 6 months.

OK, I've already commented here and on the subsequent thread on the Roscoe but I played the two videos side by side in two windows and I must say I'm amazed at how well the Marlin performed compared to the Roscoe. It was neck and neck for much of the rides. The Marlin has the speed but the Roscoe seems to handle better overall. I don't think you could wrong with either bike on this trail.

I got this same bike and I thought it was expensive too, but I quickly learned it is relatively low cost compared to what’s out there on the trails. I love my Marlin 6 though never thought I’d spend this much money on a bike bow I’m considering what’s next after a year or two. Marlin 6 has been great to learn on.

That looked like a lot of fun. The new Marlin 6 seems a lot more capable than even the Marlin 7 from several years ago. I'd struggle on that trail with mine even though I've upgraded the tires. I'm looking at putting a 2.4" tire with more aggressive tread on the front. It will fit either bike.
@MattyActive
@MattyActive 2 жыл бұрын
Nice! I’m looking at the same kind of tire. Yea it’s definitely better than my 2020 marlin 6.
@mrvwbug4423
@mrvwbug4423 2 жыл бұрын
I don't think anyone would struggle on Rooney, It's a perfect "any level of rider" trail. A total beginner could go as slow as they need as there is nothing steep or committed and a fast rider can carry a good bit of speed and there are some hidden gap jumps if you have the speed. And the dirt is usually pretty grippy, XC tires do fine on that trail. I'd probably put Maxxis Rekons or Ardent Race on the Marlin

Thanks for the video. A lot of fun as I can see and also this makes me sure that this bike would be perfect for me. I have also polygon xtrada 5 and unibike link (Polish bike) on the radar, but, after watching it and knowing aftersales service and guarantee I'm almost sure that it's the best choice. Greets from sounth-west of Poland.

I was going to a derby bout in Denver one time and the guy behind me was doing a wheelie for what seemed like a very long time I was impressed. My motorcycle doesn’t do wheelies, nor do I think I will be doing them on my Marlin 6 either lol

Wheelie on the trail- check. Somehow continuing to meet pretty girls on bikes- check. Impeccable manners that would make any mom proud- check. A good day! Don't mess with the bike, you use it as your road bike. New forks and tires will make it a better offroader, but not as good as your other bikes, and will make it worse on pavement. Think of your Roscoe as the Rock, and your Marlin as Kevin Hart. The Roscoe is your bruiser, the Marlin is small and fun. They do different things well, a perfect team!

Wow keep up the good content and keep riding right now I have a trek fx 2 disc and schwinn and a trek dual sport on the way my rides mostly consist of riding on roads/pavement but I am definitely thinking of getting a Marlin or Roscoe for tougher roads with that nice suspension and I ride in Chicago area which has lots of nice trails and bike paths but otherwise keep up the good work and try Roscoe or marlin in snow.

The main gripe about Rooney is it is a "flow" trail but doesn't really have any features on it, there's a few gappable spots on the trail if you have a lot of speed, but otherwise no real rollers, side hits or anything resembling a jump. It is reasonably fast and a perfect beginner downhill and is very smooth by front range standards. Rooney is also not a bad climb either, nowhere near as steep as the fire road. Rooney could definitely use a few alt lines with some small jumps and drops though.
@MattyActive
@MattyActive 2 жыл бұрын
I can understand that for sure. I thought about jumping a few things but wasn’t sure if it was meant for it or nor. A few features on that trail would make it so much more fun
@mrvwbug4423
@mrvwbug4423 2 жыл бұрын
@@MattyActive It's definitely good for practicing cornering and that is the key to going fast on it. Though I haven't ridden it in ages, it's a long drive for me so will only usually ride it as a winter ride when the rest of the front range is buried in snow/mud. You should check out some of the trails in the Fort Collins area. I'd recommend Mill Creek and Carey Springs/Sawmill at Horsetooth Mountain and Ginny at Bobcat Ridge. Though be warned, the climbs for both are some of the most brutal on the front range (like just as bad as Belcher Hill).
