I've been trying to get into watercolour but it's all been a bit frustrating so far - I don't have enough time (young kids!) nor have I been seeing enough progress. The amount of tutorials, people to 'follow' and materials out there make it all overwhelming. Yours is one of the first watercolour pages I've viewed on KZbin and I decided to just go for it with this painting tonight. My final result is surprisingly good and I learned a lot. Turns out the 30 minute 'quick-draw' was just what I needed - don't think, just paint. This has been the most inspiring thing I've done to date. Sincerely, thank you, Matthew, and Keep up the great work!

First, wet the paper. I will start with the natural blue. Just walking across, Let it fade away. And play the same to the bottom Clouds, because the water will back into it. Keeping going with the tissue until it not going anymore. Excellent. Let’s give us a few seconds, just to, just to dry off. Natural green to painting very distance hills, mountains, whatever you want to call them. Always clear my brush. Closer to us. What I am doing here, to this hill, a little bit natural orange to make it slightly green-ish. Then, wipe away, some light. Give it a sense of depth. Natural green, the dark green, Spiky, spiky, spiky… It is a nice way, easily working really. Thinking about the trees, you can make it higher or lower. It is your choice. Natural yellow light. Working within all over the top. Almost highlighted. It starts to dry because the pain is quite heavy. Carve some details. Then, original green with a tiny bit of orange and blue to paint some very high mountains. Another layer in the back. Adding a little bit of details. Manipulate it. Beautiful word. Dark green. To paint a couple of pine trees. A few dots on the top. We got five, it is a good number. Dark green, swipe across. Reflecting the trees. Very dry brush, a nice way. Craft knife. A sharp one. Mix dark green and blue. Add some reeds. Don’t be afraid to make these things hig. Cattails. Then, modifying some details, like highlight and dark, make it more realistic.

Hi Matthew, I saw you have updated your site this year. I found this exercise very helpful not having to sketch the landscape scene first. I'm left-handed it was a little difficult keeping up with the angle to remember as you progressed. I am hoping to purchase one of your DVD's and continue to follow online. I need more appropriate brushes too. Advising the brush number as you went was very helpful too.
