It's been a while since I watched To Aru series and this just brings me a lot of nostalgia. Also, if I still remember it correctly "Railgun" is about the science-side of the anime, while "Index" is more focused on the magic side. The male MC is someone who's involved in both sides so you kinda see him in both. "Accelerator" is about a notable character in the series whom have also wandered of on both the magic and science side of the story.

The Toaru series is a franchise that happen in the same universe. -Index follow Touma (a unluck Guy with the souly Black hair) and Index (the little nun with bluish hair); -Railgun is a spin-off that follow Misaka one of the (kind of) homies of Touma and her friends, also it shows certain Events for her perspective and more stuff that we only know by name that happen in Index; -in Accelerator, we follow a Guy called Acellerator. He's kind like the Vegeta of Touma, friend/enemy/rival of Touma. His spin-off Works almost like Railgun. It shows Events in the dark side of the universe more often and Accelerator and the fell ones he's closed with facing it.

In "Toaru" there is magic and churches fight against mages and each other in secret. At the same time there is the academic city where students with science are given Esper powers. These powers are classefied in levels according to strength: from level 0, failure, no power, to level 5, unstoppable. Index is about a student who is level 0 but secretly has the power to neutralise anything supernatural. He meets Index, a girl who cannot cast magic but has hundreds of powerfull magic books sealed inside her. Railgun is about the third strongest level 5 Esper. She can control electrons and can use them to create lightning, magnetism, hack computers and fire metal objects like a railgun. Her friend can teleport and works for a kind of city guard. Excelerator is about the strongest Esper. He can change the direction of anything that moves and touches him. Since he is the strongest, he is constantly challenged, so he tries to defeat them as brutally as possible so that he is not harassed further. "Toaru" is mostly about mages attacking the city or index or scientists trying unethical experiments.

Hooboi this is a very very long series in the light novels(a type of novel in Japan) spanning 53 volumes on the Index side alone with the latest one being released this month and is still continuing. The 3 seasons of anime covered 22 volumes with the latter part being rushed. Basically how this works is each series is following a main character in the one side of the story(The magic side and the science side) though Index delves into both. Certain Magical Index follows Touma(spiky hair dude) and Index(the Nun in white) Certain Scientific Railgun follows Misaka(short haired girl with brown color) Certain Scientific Accelerator follow Accelerator(white haired dude) If you want to watch this it's best to do it on release order, you can also only watch Index series alone or Railgun series alone but the Accelerator one wants you to watch either or both first before diving into it. If you want to watch this in chronological order you can go A certain Scientific Railgun A certain Scientific Railgun S(2nd season) A certain Magical Index I A certain Scientific Accelerator A certain Magical Index II A certain Scientific Railgun T(3rd season) after this point it's better to read it instead because the adaptation is so messy/rushed it's hard to understand what's going on. The bad adaptation for Index might play a role. It could be similarly popular as Re: Zero if adapted well. Regardless, it is extremely popular in Japan and China.

You can watch each series on it's own, by release date (what the opening playlist did) or in a chronological order. All of them work fine, with chronological order being the easiest to follow, but also the most annoying since you'll have to constantly switch between episodes of index and railgun mid arcs. If you're not too invested in the franchise yet I suggest just picking index or railgun season 1 without thinking too much about it.

Toaru's... I don't know how to feel about Toaru. It rotates between "this is the coolest shit I've ever seen" and "...well that was dumb." Even moreso when you get into the novels and manga the anime is based on and you get the additional question "wait why did the anime cut that bit, that seemed really important-" Still, it gets massive points from me for having one of its main protagonists be an electricity wielder because it's easily one of the coolest powers to see in action in anything.

Its science vs magic. A conflict between 2 factions. There are people with abilities developed through scientific means like Espers/ESP and such and those who can actually use magic as well as people who can manifest gods power and miracle. Majutsu no index is the main story. Railgun and Accelerator are side stories. Railgun features misaka mikoto. One of the few lvl5 Espers of the academy city and also the 2nd heroine in the main story. Accelerator on the other hand is the antagonist of the sisters arc in both the index and railgun stories.

yeah railgun is about the coin girl because they call her railgun. the white hair dude is called accelerator and the mc from index isn't named index but touma. index is the name of the nun that goes around with him. this show is magic and science combined and mostly about the city they are in which combines those 2 things. index is like the main show and storyline and the mc of index is the mc of all the shows combined so the timeline is about him with sort of side stories about the other main characters and him showing up in their shows as well and the other main characters showing up in each others stories as well. if you watch index alone you won't miss much because that's the main story but i reccomend watching accelerator and railgun along with it

Basically in the toaru series there's 2 sides. Magic side (index) and science side (railgun). In the index, we follow the male MC adventure getting involved with mages and all their problem and occasionally solving some problem in the science side. In the railgun, we follow the female MC encountering problems that involved the espers in the academy city and occasionally brushed with the magic side. The science side didn't know the existance of mages but the magic side know of espers because academy city (the city of espers) is well known as the forefront of scientific advancement and knowledge while the mages are hiding themself from public eyes.

Consistent characters between the three series. Most certainly worth a watch. Start with Index 1 to see if you like the style and then Railgun 1. I believe there is a way to watch the series. I know that index season 1 and 2 came out before Railgun but Railgun season 1 and 2 occur before Index season one. Some seasons of later Railgun take place at the same time as Index. Believe Railgun season 3 is during season one of index. You would have to look up a watching guide to know the chronological order.

Index has an impossibly huge appetite and constantly is eating Kamijo Touma out of house and home. also she likes to bite his head. Accelerator has a huge amount of character development. even more if you read the light novels. he's the white haired albino boy. The little girl with him is one of the many clones of Railgun, but she did not finish the artificial aging process, also she is kind of a special clone as she is a control tower for them all. Fan girl Kongou Mitsuko is indeed from a wealthy family, but she's a pretty good person. Also Sogita Gunha is just awesome. because guts.

If you plan to watch this franchise, I do recommend an order to watch it. I'll try to explain it as well as I can. The Index seasons usually have 5 or 6 shorter stories, while the Railgun seasons have 2 longer stories with some episodes of padding. They cover mostly the same time period, just from different perspectives because of the different protagonists. The problem is a story line called "sisters" which is the first one in Railgun season 2, the protagonist of Index only gets involved for the last 10 or so percent. However the same story also gets covered in the first season of Index, so watching that first will spoil both the ending, and a plot twist. So my recommendation to watch it is the first 2 seasons of Railgun, then the first 2 seasons of Index. Accelerator and the Railgun OVA comes next, if I remember correctly, then Railgun season 3 and Index season 3. I think this is how the parallel timelines spoil the least.

you do need to watch raildex! its one of the best sci-fi/fantasy animes out there like you guess there are factions , the story is about a city that is embroiled in a cold war between the major factions of science and magic with both sides having heros and villans in it , and there is an internal time line its luckily all written by the same person so that helps with the major sagas and keeping track of all the moving pieces for watch order heres my thought as railgun is written as a spin off and assumes you know Index stuff , watch index S1, railgun S1, Index 2 and 3, railgun S2 and S3, ignore the accelerator spin off , and wait for index S4 or read the light novels starting at index NT

There's nothing crazy about the toaru songs but they manage to carry it anyways, the actual show was pretty good too, my personal favourite was Accelerator spin-off

Index is the main story while the others are spin off's the stories is basically a mix between Fantasy magic and Science fiction highly recommend it.

This series overall is decent (at least anime, maybe light novels are better), but I still love it. I would say the strongest side of this anime are characters, while there is a lot medioker characters, there is also a bunch of really great ones, and... Accelerator (the white hair guy) is imo one of the best characters I have seen in anime and my top1 favourite. At first he is just your edgy teen that hates the world, but the more you get to know him, why he is like that and how he slowly changes later in the series makes him really great. Ah also about the series itself, it's based on a light novel series that has 50+ volumes and is still releasing. Main series Index is a dark urban fantasy based directly on a light novel. Then you have Railgun which is everyones favourite, it is more lighthearted and gives a new light to more important arcs from Index and ofc gives new content, it's based on a spinoff manga. Then you have Accelerator spinoff that is also based on a other spinoff manga, a lot of people not like this spinoff, but I enjoyed it. If you want to start with this series I would say Railgun is probably the best choice, while Index has a lot darker tone, Railgun is just better and season 2 of this series gives much more of a impact about certain arc than Index also has.

The LN series was THE best-selling LN of all time for approximately a decade before being dethroned by That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime. It has dropped further in ranking since then but is still in the Top 5.

Index is the main line series, rail gun and Accelerator are cutoffs from the main line but, like a marvel movie all the stories are intertwined at certain points so really...you can start with any of the three but its best to start with Index.

I recommend watching "Railgun" first, at least through the Sisters/Accelerator arc of season 2. The same arc happens in "Index" but it's way shorter and not as good and you don't need to have seen "Index" to understand "Railgun". Even though they are connected shows the stories are written in such a way to make them independent shows. Also, I think "Railgun" is the better show and "Accelerator" comes after season 2 of "Railgun".

"What are these peoples' powers?" A whole heaping of bullshit is what they are. Academy City kids have various superpowers enabled by specific induced mutations in the human body and brain chemistry to delude themselves into being able to use them, generally expressed in scientific terms, with physics as the basis; Teleportation, magnetic field manipulation & electricity generation, manipulation of electrons, remote control of brain chemistry, etc. Think the Fate universe's Reality Marbles, just without actually being able to summon an alternate dimension. Can be powerful if your 'personal reality' is stable enough, but power varies from "Can survive a nuke" to "Unable to even cause a breeze." depending on the individual. Each person also only gets 1 power, though the stronger the user, the more likely there are multiple ways of expressing that power. Magic folk have various superpowers generally expressed in religious terms, with 'Idol Theory', loosely described as the idea that mages tap into the past and present belief of humanity and create spells that focus on, or twist specific interpretations into existence. Things like emphasizing the protective nature of 'warm fire' to make a whole-ass flame assault golem, using the symbology of tarot cards to empower them, all the way up to assuming (parts of) the identities of Gods to imitate them, insofar as the magician in question has the power to. Each magician could theoretically learn everything the other magicians can. The two power systems are mutually incompatible; One cannot make use of the other without seriously harming themselves. For people like me who like power systems that actually function with solid rules, this series is a lot of fun to read and wiki through; The anime is a lot less thorough with theoretical stuff, for obvious reasons. But still has a lot more of that than any other anime I've seen to date.

The first two Index seasons were pretty good animation for fight scenes I heard that the third Index season was much worse. Honestly I watched the first season and then transferred to the novels which were even better. What I liked about the series is that everyone had their own objectives and usually I am used to when it conflicts with the MC's current objective they will give up their own but here they often followed their own objective even if it puts them in conflict. The series has two well fleshed out power structures for both Magic and Science and its interesting to see how they interact.

it starts slow, as some of the first seasons are older with quite slow pacing, but the newer stuff is quite hype and good, as of 2023, I recommend only watching railgun series, as it has the best fights, best budget, and less talking about nonsense for extended periods of time. you could even just watch season 2 and 3 of railgun, since season 1 is mostly filler season.

Imo, the series is better experienced in the in-universe chronological order rather than the release order, so Railgun 1, Railgun 2, Index 1, Accelerator, Index 2, Railgun 3, Index 3, it just enhances the experiences as the misteries unveil slowly, though railgun 1 unlike 2 and 3 has a lot of filler and starts quite slowly.

Best series of all time in my opinion. You know its good because its the best selling Light Novel series of all time and is considered one of the best light novel series of the last decade. It simply hasn't caught on in the west for some reason
