At 2:11 the Harmonic Gang are standing across the street from Golden Mile Plaza in Scarborough, Ontario---this mall doesn't exist anymore (now a "no name" Loblaws store)--when it was first built it was considered to be Canada's first large "mall"

nope--I actually was at the Loblaws No Name store that now occupies this site--inside in an office are a series of photos of the Golden Mile Plaza that existed before this No Name went up--there was a bowling alley, dry cleaners and a long gone BiWay store on this site etc--in fact in another SCTV episode (The Towering Inferno) you can see the same mall/bowling alley in the background--many episodes of SCTV originated in Toronto and Edmonton--the cast said when filming was done in Edmonton they were allowed to get away with more risky sketches as the censors couldn't be bothered going all the way to Edmonton

Hiring five guys to carry out the loot was due to a combination of being lazy and being optimistic about how much money they were going to get.
