We watched this video recently and decided to visit Maumee Bay. We were also going to check out East Harbor. We went yesterday and I couldn't believe how nice the Maumee Bay campground is. It is the nicest Ohio State Park campground I've ever been to, even a little nicer than West Branch and Salt Fork. Made reservations for August at Maumee. We can't wait! We didn't even bother visiting East Harbor. I've camped there before, but my wife has never been to East Harbor. You had mentioned on another video that you are stacked on top eachother at East Harbor. I feel the same way.
@WanderingWagners5 жыл бұрын
We made another video, more recently at Maumee Bay if you haven't seen it. We show more of the park. It's definitely one of our favorite Ohio parks. East harbor is crowded and not much room so you feel like you're a sardine. Most like it because it's close to the lake activities, but we're locals so the activities don't interest us like out of towners.

That rain Friday night reminds me of why I disliked tent camping. Your tin tent didn't leak even if you touched the walls.

Haha that's why we don't tent camp anymore. Your stuff would get wet even when it didn't rain. The dew would leak in most of the time on the walls haha

It is a nice park. Unless it's the weekend and you are swimming at the pond and all the inner city kids are there raising all kinds of havoc.
@WanderingWagners6 жыл бұрын
We've always stayed during the weekend but we don't go to the lake to swim. We've just walked the beach mostly. I know the proximity to Toledo can be a turnoff due to some people's actions. We haven't experienced it personally though.

Maumee Bay is by far our favorite campground in this area, we have been there 6 times this season already! We love the privacy the brush rows give. Is there any parks other parks in this area that you recommend that have something similar? I hate being right on top of another site, especially with our dogs.
@WanderingWagners6 жыл бұрын
In the area? I can't think of another campground around here with brush rows like Maumee Bay. A lot of the sites at alum Creek state park have brush rows but that's down by Columbus. We agree with you about being on top of each other especially with dogs!

Nice sites. Such a bummer that all the no privacy, no space, campgrounds still fill up, so there is no incentive to stretch out the sites and plant trees and shrubbery. Quite the storm, forget the dog being scared, I'd be a little concerned too. We might get one storm like that every 2 years around here. Dump line ups; if there's more than one to wait we just get going and dump closer to home. Yeah it might cost us $10, and a bit of extra gas to pull, but how much is your Sunday time worth? Of course if you're going to run into line ups everywhere, then you're screwed no matter what. Luckily we haven't run into that problem, yet. Going to check out your Airstream name vid next, but just thought of a good one, too late I realize, and someone one else probably already mentioned it. Wagging Wagon Cheers from B.C.
@WanderingWagners6 жыл бұрын
The dump line was much shorter once we got in it than it was the hours leading up to it. I takes so long because most people don't seem to know what they're doing. Haha we have used other dump stations with long lines though. Here, if you stay at an Ohio State park you can dump for free at any other Ohio State park. We have another park 2 miles from home so it works out.

I know the area well but have never stayed there. It is a gorgeous park but people should know it has a 40 ft max length and only 30 amp service available so it doesn't work for larger rigs or those needing 50 amp. We've find this true with many state parks both in Ohio and other states so, if you are big or need it, check first.
@WanderingWagners6 жыл бұрын
Rigs longer than 40 can easily fit in this state park, and many other state parks. Our total combined length is probably around 50+ feet and we don't have issues. Our set up before was longer and we stayed here and fit in the pads. You're right about 30 amps though, but most units don't need 50 unless they're running everything in their rigs, including 2 air conditioners, at the same time. Our Airstream has 50 amp.
@roydavis22426 жыл бұрын
When you click on the DNR campground link for this park, each site says "Max Camping Unit Length:40" so that is what we go by. Not all Ohio State parks have this limit. I know some with a 61ft max plus they have 50 amp service. Our unit is all-electric so the stove, refrigerator and everything else uses electricity.
