That’s sad. The foremast being ignominiously felled like that. Urgh…couldn’t they have kept either it or Olympic for posterity?

Hard to believe that this was approved, so many people signed a petition to save the Mauretania, she was one of the greatest ships to ever sail the seas. Olympic also. It should have been a crime

This grand design vessel should of been kept as a floating museum, her sister ship Lusitania was torpedoed in the first great war.

Winston Churchill saw storm clouds brewing over Europe, and said that the Mauretania should not be scrapped. The Great Liners provided immeasurable service during the First World War, and Churchill thought they might be needed again. But only Aquitania was spared.

the Old Mauretania is Being Broken up in Resides, Naval Dockyard. So, Look Your last of this World-Famous ship. The Years, The Fastest Altlantic Liner. Now, are rapidly disintegrating hull. Here’s all that’s left of the Decks. With So Many Thousands of passengers have Pasted the plates are cut out And, hoisted overboard. So much scrap metal. The Anchor Chain is cut through and the anchor is dumped over the side onto the key. A souvenir for someone perhaps, this is the end of the Mauretania. One of the finest ships that ever sail the seas. And now the former mast brought down crashing down on the ruined decks. And Look Out, Look Out, We look out, no more. (00:13)

As much as I wish this ship wasn’t scrapped still she enjoyed her life as the grand old lady of the seas and held her blue ribbon for 22 years and many enjoyed sailing on her
