He is crying because he remember he was a miner at age 14. It was hard. Then we can see his friend who was the best trumpetist of the local fanfare. He told him years ago to come to Paris. He says his friend would have for sure a great musician carreer. His friend would not come because his Dad forbid him. He is sad, he knows his friend has regrets.
