Ravel had many trouble waiting this masterwork. Now it's one of the best and most beautiful pieces ever written. Like Mozart...not a single note too much, not a single note too less. Yuja (wearing Dior) played the most touching, beautiful and tasteful interpretation ever! A celebration for the ear and the eye. ❤

I am sorry to say that Martha Argerich is the best performer of this piece (in my humble ears). Yuja plays it too free in my opinion. When you try to follow an exact pulse, it becomes more emotional, strangely enough. Ravel was very strict in his tempo-indications. This piece is one of my all time favorites, by the way.

I have heard many (really many) versions of this marvelous piece of music and have to tell you that I also very much like the rendition by Helene Grimaud (with conductor Vladimir Jurowski) also to be found on KZbin. To me the syncing of the wind instrumentalists with the piano is so fragile in this piece and is often annoyingly off by quite a bit (e.g. soloist suddenly dragging while they should keep the pace that was set by the pianist). And then I heard and saw Yuja Wang play this live 2 days ago and really, this was one of the best performances in terms of emotions and communication with the solo instruments and orchestra (Mahler Chamber Orchestra with Yuja Wang as conductor).
