4:09 the locals call it Chou Chou (susu) and personally I love it peeled cut sliced up and boiled (not to a complete mash).. a bit of lemon juice, olive oil and spring onions!! HEAVEN ! That is where I will be doing my shopping in a month btw !Thx for the video hope you are good!

Another idea on how to cook the chou chou- boil mash and fry with onions and garlic- add an egg yolk, milk and cheeder cheeser , parsley salt and pepper to taste - its a mauritian gratin! Really really good!

The green vegetable is chayote (chouchou) and is the main ingredient used to make the steamed dumplings served with the clear soup (boulette). The yellow one is pattypan squash (patisson) and is the squash served under the mango tree. If you are still on the island, and will be on the centre of the island, I would highly recommend Escale Creole. It's a family run restaurant serving local food, where hou can sample a good variety of creole/local cuisine at a very fair price and with great hosts.

Loving the Mauritius series guys. You guys have given us a few good options for our trip there in May. Please do more food/street food reviews of the food in Mauritius if you can!

If you go to shop in Grand Bay you will pay tourist price. Locals shop elsewhere like Winners, Super U. It is cheaper in other towns.

Just come back from Mauritius after spending 5 weeks there. Top tip, if there isn’t prices listed. Do not shop. For me, I also got my boyfriend to order for me as he is Mauritian. I also speak small amount of creole so can order my food/drinks so they find it hard with someone speaking creole to charge tourist prices.

Wow! I understand why you'd do that. they have two completely different prices depending on where you're from. In some ways I think that is fair... but everyone would like to save some pennies ☺️ 😅 🖤 Thank you for watching

@4:10, this is Choko (aka Chayote). Mauritian call it Chou Chou. @4:16 that is Patty Pan Squash (aka Squash Sunburst). That's what's on the plate @59:15. Mauritian call it Patisson.

Thank you for your videos! We are travelling soon. We are staying on the East Coast. I was intending on traveling to Port Louis for the markets but the Centre du Flacq looks just as good, would you agree or still recommend Port Louis? Thank you.

Is it £45 per night because it's out of season, even though the weather looks fine?

Mauritius is not cheap.
@parttimetravellingfamily11 ай бұрын
Very True Words! But it can be cheaper than the usual tourist vacation, staying in a resort 🖤 Maybe This way the money can go directly into the locals pockets. 🖤
